Beautiful church and definitely worth the visit. So gorgeous! There is holy water that runs through the church and you can buy a container of the Reina for about 75 cents to fill with water and take home. Came during the week of festivities to...More

Some places just leave you speechless with its divine beauty. This church is one of them. Everything about this place is intriguing; from the story on how this church was built to the numerous people who enter this place on their knees; from the story...More

We walked on the square in front of the basilica and inside. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and there were a lot of people inside and outside. Some of them crawled on their knees from the entrance to the front while saying their...More

The basilica is beautiful. Remind me of bizantine churches. I read something that sort of makes it parallel to Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. No marble. Lots of painted wood panels. I didn't have a camera with me, and unfortunately they don't have post...More

Much more than I expected. The church is huge and stunning, but there are also the additional displays which are very interesting and add so much to the experience. Even if you are not religious, it is still very moving.

There is more to see than just the Basilica although watching the parishioners of all ages walk down the isle on their knees was humbling. One can also visit the spring where the 'holy' water is located and hear the story of the young virgin.

Stopped here to photograph the interior and was not disappointed. Many people praying but if you are quiet, move slowly and respect personal space, you'll make some great shots. Bring your widest lens and a mid-range zoom to shoot the stained glass. Easy to spend...More

There is always a mass service happening here, but such a beautiful piece of Cartago's history and religious climate of Costa Rica, especially in Cartago. Worth walking around inside, seeing the blessed water (and saving some if you'd like), as well as to see &...More
