WOW what an amazing experience we had for only $49/each! Our guide Hainir was absolutely fantastic! He was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about a wide array of plants- including their medicinal uses- growing on the farm in addiction to involving us in pressing sugar cane for juice and making drip coffee after dinner for us before our eyes while describing the process. I wrote down at least ten different plants I learned about on the tour ranging from a stevia bush and peppermint plant to mimosa, bibida fruit, mimbro fruit, and more! For a nature junkie, I saw and experienced things I’d never even heard of on this tour!

What’s more, we got to taste many of these plants as we went or rub them on our skin such as the citronella and lemongrass!

Before the farm tour, we chopped vegetables for our salad and blended vegetables like chayote and carrots with herbs like culandro (not cilantro- never tried this before either!) and garlic to make one of the most delicious natural salad dressings I’ve ever tasted. We also made corn tortillas on a hot stove from scratch after mixing and patting them out ourselves! We tasted those with queso cheese immediately which was a fantastic snack. After the tour, there was a buffet waiting for us in addition to our salad and dressing which included a savory papaya hash, gallopinto, juicy chicken dish, and super flavorful beef dish. We were even brought dessert in the form of a fried tortilla covered in delicious molasses.

I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. The delightfully friendly woman who helped us cook/prepare food and Hainir were above and beyond in service and expertise. Must try!!!

My husband and teenage son did this tour while we were in Costa Rica. We really enjoyed this. We got to learn how to make some traditional Costa Rican food. We also got a tour of the farm and saw how things are grown and used in cooking and for medicinal purposes. Then we got to eat a Costa Rican meal. We would definitely do this again and recommend it for others.

This was a very interesting tour! We learned so much about the plants on the farm and we were able to try so many different fresh fruits. We would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting La Fortuna.

We had a great afternoon with the Cempesina Dinner tour, which ended with the most exceptional dinner. We came 2 families, 4 kids and 4 adults. Kids ages 10-12. We were greeted by a guide that gave us a tour of the farm- it was very entertaining- the kids got to taste different plants and fruits and saw animals they raise on the farm. Everything was beautiful and super well maintained. We picked some herbs for dinner and learned a lot. Then we had a small activity for the kids and adults- making drinks out of a sugar cane, tasting some home made alcohol from a sugar cane (adults only :-)). We then moved to cooking area, where we made tortillas, a salad and rice. Dinner followed with many more options - all incredibly delicious. We were blown away by the quality of the food and the friendliness of the hosts.
Highly recommended!

During an amazing trip to Costa Rica with lots of memories made, the dinner tour at Arenal Vida Campesina was my favorite experience. Roberto was an excellent tour guide, offering us a glimpse into the operation of the farm and its crops. We got to sample some things during the tour, he explained each item's food and medicinal uses, and we harvested some cilantro and lemon verbena for dinner. We got to see how sugar cane is harvested and taste its juice right after being pressed.

When it came time to prepare dinner, even my five year old got involved, helping to make tortillas. We helped to prepare a salad and dressing, and cut some veggies to make gallo pinto, which has followed me home as an instant staple household dish. The picadillo they served is my favorite dish I had in all of our meals in Costa Rica (I'd love to have the recipe). And the coffee they served was the best of our trip, too. Make sure you definitely grab some to take with you. I can't recommend this experience enough. Thank you for a great memory, Arenal Vida Campesina!

This was a fun tour especially if you love plants/gardening. Got to see many plants and learn their culinary and medicinal uses. Tour started at 5pm so unfortunately the latter part was in the dark. Great fun though to press sugar cane and drink fresh cane juice! The cooking lesson is just chop veggies and form tortillas but it’s fun. The food is good, papaya and potatoes hash was great! Very unexpected.

OMG the food here was SO GOOD!! One of our tour guides brought us here for lunch after a day of adventure. It waas served buffet style. Then we got drinks, fresh sugarcane, coffee, and dessert. We were stuffed by the time we left, but it was oh so worth it! We sat on the side so were able to look out at the flowers, see a few animals pass by and see parts of the farm.

A very friendly, delicious, and authentic Costa Rican meal. We loved seeing all of the plants they grow within their small farm (make sure to try the sour cucumbers). The dinner was amazing and was probably the best meal we had in our two weeks while in Costa Rica!

Our friends did the coffee bean plantation tour which took us from berries on the bush to the end result of lightly roasted beans. Every step of the way, our guide was knowledgeable and answered all our questions about coffee. We also got to experience the sugar cane press and drank the super delicious sugar cane juice fresh from the stalk! They also let us try the sugar cane liquor and boy that's 40% proof right there...super strong!
At the end of the tour, we got to drink the freshly made coffee, with fried tortilla drizzled with sugar cane syrup, and a fried yucca which looked and tasted like hash browns. The local cat that's winding around your legs at the table would like a few pieces of your fried yucca.
I learned a lot about the eco systems to make sustainable coffee, and would recommend this tour for any java aficionados.

We did the farm tour and it was absolutely a marvelous experience!! We made cane juice, chewed on sugar cane and the adults even got a shot of their own moonshine! It was so informative and we learned so many things about the inner working of their farm, we learned about coffee and how they make their special, delicious “honey coffee”. The kids loved tasting all the fruits straight from the tree and seeing and feeding the animals and if this wasn’t amazing enough we then were taken to the restaurant where we made our own tortillas and we were served a delicious lunch, including a lovely dessert and a perfect and tasty coffee!! We asked for vegan meal and they were happy to acomódate and we had homemade tortilla chips with spicy salsa, salad with a yummy dressing, rice, beans, a yam dish, yuca and steamed vegetables. All from their own farm! The meal is plentiful and delicious and served buffet style so you can go back for 2nds or even 3rds if you wish. Cannot stress enough how worth the money it is!!! Family owned and operated, this place exudes of warmth and Costa Rican hospitality!
