My 12 year old and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour of this wildlife sanctuary. Our tour guide, Carlos was excellent and had a very good sense of humor. We loved prepping food for animals and seeing how the monkeys ripped through the little packages we prepared. What a great cause to support! I will definitely look into a two-week volunteer with homestay once covid-19 vaccines are common.…

We loved our visit to this sanctuary. Very informative. We even saw a wild monkey who followed us around up in the trees.

This was the highlight of our trip. Went spent a week traveling around to different national parks around the country and it was great to see the animals up close at the end of our trip. We were given the tour by Carlos who seemed to really care for the animals at the center. We did the volunteer program where we help prepare the food and feed the animals. Would highly recommend to anyone who likes animals. It was really nice to see the excellent care the animals received and that some would be able to be released back into the wild once fully rehabilitated.…

This tour is a must if you are in La Fortuna! We spent 3.5 hours here this morning on the wildlife and volunteer tour. We arrived and were surprised by a standing ovation from their entire crew as we were their first and only guests on opening day as they have been closed since March due to Covid. Special! They are a true rehabilitation facility, but considered part zoo so they are allowed visitors. All animals are rescues and if possible rehabilitated back to the wild. Most were pets either confiscated or turned in when the owner could no longer handle the wild animal. Some are injured from cars or electric lines. Monkeys we learned are the hardest to put back in the wild as most were taken as babies so they did not learn life lessons from their mothers. Many birds had wings clipped by owners so they couldn’t fly. Over time, now that they are well cared for and fed properly they gradually can release back. Their colors also become brighter and more true with a proper diet. Amazingly we also saw toucans and monkeys that were not caged hanging around, visiting their friends. A big part of this tour is helping to prepare their meals including making them packages so that they have extraction exercises. Everyday their diet and extraction game is different. We then delivered them to the animals, which was really fun! The monkeys were super excited! It was truly an amazing experience, we learned so much and gained such an appreciation for places like this who care so deeply about them and spend a lot of efforts to care, rehabilitate and teach people, including our next generations why wild creatures should be kept wild. ❤️…

We loved doing both of the tours at the rescue center. Lady was very knowledgeable about the sloths, and we enjoyed seeing them. Although there was only three of them there, being a rescue center, you never know how many will be there. At the time we were there, they had a baby names Flash, and two older ones. Lady knew a LOT about sloths and we enjoyed learning all about them. The regular tour was conducted by Carlos, and he was knowledgeable and entertaining. He captured our attention and really seemed to love giving tours. We saw a variety of monkeys, birds, pigs & other animals. We also signed up to volunteer after the tour, which consisted of making the individual bowls of food. It's all based on the type of animal as to what you make. We then went around with Carlos to feed the animals, which was, more or less, him opening a slot in the fence so that you could dump it in there. But, it was still fun to see the animals come running! We would definitely recommend going on both of these tours. …
