If you want to just take a leisurely walk and take pictures with animals, this is your place. The animals are well taken care of and have lots of room to run. The monkeys are so curious and like to watch the tourists.

Zoos can be interesting and yet quite sad. This place is a joy because the animals are often rescue survivors and the setting is very attractively laid out. They seemed to apologize for the cost, but $15 or $20 per person is not bad for...More

This is an ideal family excursion for all ages. Zooave is a special kind of "zoo" in that the animals have been rescued from injuries and illness and are helped and protected until that they can be released back to the wild. They are living...More

Aside from being close to San Jose, ZooAve has a beautiful collection of birds and other animals endemic to Costa Rica. Being a rescue center for animals found in captivity illegally add to the importance of the place and raises awareness in the damage humans...More

The selection of birds is outstanding along with the fact it is breeding and rehabilitation area to repopulate them to other parts of Costa Rica made it especially great. Also, the natural wildlife setting for many animals made some areas seem more a walk in...More

If you're in the area, would recommend not missing this zoo. There are huge iguanas and peacocks wandering the grounds, and many other beautiful animals. Plenty of colorful parrots and macaws, and a toucan with a prosthetic bill! Even a few sloths, which are actually...More

We went here for our kid's 3rd birthday. We had planned to spend a few hours, but in the end we went fairly quickly through the park (kid was whiny and hungry). The place is really nice, though, and it's great that it's a sanctuary...More

It is not a zoo although it works in very close similar concept. I loved to hear that their main purpose is conservatism therefor animals there is because they were rescued. The have long trails and lots of animals specially birds.

Are there lockers there or a place to store luggage while visiting the zoo?

We left our luggage in the car with our driver. I bet it would be safe to leave your luggage in the office. If you are uncomfortable, you may want to purchase some luggage locks.

Jacqueline N, you mentioned that the admission fee was a bit high, but can you elaborate? If you don't mind, can I ask what you paid for an adult to enter the park?
