"Pudong, in its 13-year history, has surprisingly progressed in its economic strength and its urban development. This 556-sqaure-kilometer farmland 13 years ago is well on its way toward a modern metropolis. As the epitome of Shanghai' modernization and the symbol of China's reform and opening up drive, Pudong has become an ideal land for global investors." http://pudong.shanghaichina.org/jiangsx.htm

Shanghai stands as an amazing story of rapid development. Before 1990, there were no true high rise buildings or subway system. Pudong is built on reclaimed land. Now the skyline rivals that of Hong Kong and boasts the 2nd and 4th tallest buildings in the world. It has a subway system (still somewhat under construction) that rivals any in the... More

We travelled to the Pudong New Area in the Big Bus and got down at the Shanghai TV tower. The highlight at the TV tower was the superb view from the Tower and our unforgettable photograph by the professionals. This guy gave us the picture immediately in a frame. The tall towers in Pudong New Area are worth a watch.

Pudong has the most spectacular skyline I have ever seen. It is across the Huangpu River from "old" Shanghai. In the evenings, the lights of Pudong are really extraordinary.

The best place in China to see a lot of skyscrapers and modern architecture. Around you can see also a lot of european buildings. But the weather is the most important part of your sightseeing there. Usually you can't see whole buildings, just to the middle, clouds or smog are there very often so you will be lucky if you... More

This are is a showcase of mega-tall building technology like no other place in the world. Views are spectacular and the ride to get there brilliantly fast and worth the price of participation. Expect long waiting times on holidays.

Pudong is one of the best places to live and hang out in Shanghai. And it is totally worth a visit. Lots of my favorite coffee places and shopping places are here.

First time you see this skyline, or even the 10th time -stunning and surreal. Its really that futuristic and ridiculously awesome. A definite must see if you're in town, or worth stopping by even if you're not (and of course 100 other reasons to visit Shanghai as well)

Expansive and ultra modern, this area has something for everyone. Highest shopping and attractions like the aquarium make this a full day experience. Take in the views from any of the skyscrapers, especially the World Financial Center.

It's worth going at night so you can see the Bund from the other side. We found it difficult to walk around just because the buildings (unlike Hongkong) are just so spread out. The IFC is way to expensive with just brandnames and the Superbrand mall is has a strange mix of shops. If you didn't have business to attend... More

Staying in Century Park

Neighbourhood Profile
Century Park
Shanghai residents see Pudong’s suburbs as the place that grown-ups retreat to when they’re ready to settle down and stop living in the cramped confines of a refurbished lanehouse. The areas around Century Park are some of the most desirable as they are in close proximity to the Metro Lines, granting easy access to the heart of Puxi. The park itself is a huge draw, it’s one of Shanghai’s biggest and there are sports fields tucked into one of its corners, but five-star hotels, museums and great malls make life in the Century Park area easy for the homesick foreigner. And if living in a Western bubble in China isn’t your thing, there is plenty of local flavor to be had in between the major development. Some of Lujiazui’s futurism can also be seen in buildings and sculptures throughout the neighborhood as well.
