"Pudong, in its 13-year history, has surprisingly progressed in its economic strength and its urban development. This 556-sqaure-kilometer farmland 13 years ago is well on its way toward a modern metropolis. As the epitome of Shanghai' modernization and the symbol of China's reform and opening up drive, Pudong has become an ideal land for global investors."

Stunning at night and well worth a visit, the Bund can be very crowded though and I would suggest a week night is probably best, avoid any national holiday and weekends if possible. During the day the area is not at its best and the...More

It is an interesting part of Shanghai. Modern buildings but nothing really stands out. Most of the shops over the road from our hotel related to massages and night clubs. It did not have the excitement of central Shanghai.

Although Pudong is not particularly interesting as a neighborhood ( except that it didn’t exist not too long ago), the ferry over is a scenic bargain at 2 yuan. The terminals on both sides are well marked.

Lujiazui area with the skyscrapers and The Pearl Tower is a must ... the best view is from the tallest building which is Shanghai Center. On a cloudy day, you might find yourself above clouds. Jin Mao Building and Shanghai Financial Center also have fancy...More

You can reach Pudong from the Bund by ferry or metro, but the area is best viewed from across the Bund, either by day or night (or better, both). The ferry is worth taking at least one direction.

Unless you are dying to go up in the Pearl Tower, the Pudong area is the least interesting part of Shanghai, and I lived there for several years. Pudong is best seen from The Bund, which is where photos like this one are taken. Pudong...More

Shanghai residents see Pudong’s suburbs as the place
that grown-ups retreat to when they’re ready to settle
down and stop living in the cramped confines of a
refurbished lanehouse. The areas around Century Park
are some of the most desirable as they are in close
proximity to the Metro Lines, granting easy access to
the heart of Puxi. The park itself is a huge draw,
it’s one of Shanghai’s biggest and there are sports
