For such a big city I was disappointed. It has all the animals you can think of yes. But it seems so dated. Needs a lick of paint. Animals looked ok to me. No sign of mistreatment. Super busy with people. Lot of walking. Price around 40 rmb. Okay time but nothing special. Expected more. Drinks are very expensive. Shanghai... More

Almost all animals exist in the zoo, such as Panda, elephants, all kinds of monkeys, birds and so much more Don't listen to people who acting like they are very concern about animals in this zoo because they care them not so bad as they said Ticket cost 40Y There is shuttle inside the zoo for fast travel which is... The zoo itself was adapted from a golf running by British one hundred years ago, give the zoo full of green, glass with full of big trees, surrounding with some litter river. it is best to take yr afternoon rest time in the park, with nature, with most of famous Chinese animal, like panda, monkey..., all animal are treated well... I went to Shanghai Zoo to see the pandas only, but decided to have a look around. I was very sad when I saw the state of the animals there. The Brazilian Wolf was walking back and forth near the fence the whole time I stayed there observing him. He was definitely not doing well. The elephant was continually rocking... More

It was dirty, smelly and the poor animals are being kept in awful conditions! The Elephants, pandas and crocodile enclosures were truly horrid, small and heartbreaking! All of the animals seems sad and depressed the 2 pandas just laid there, motionless. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. ANIMAL SERVICES SHOULD SHUT IT DOWN!

The zoo was in a horrific state: litter everywhere (even in the animal enclosures), I saw a coke bottle (in the animal cage) that the sun had bleached, which suggested that the bottle had been there for quite some time. The reptile part was nasty: finger marks everywhere and filthy enclosures, some you could barely see through the glass. The... More

Shanghai zoo is terrible. Do not go and give them money to treat animals so badly. The cost, what we thought was far too little for a reputable zoo at 20rmb. After walking for a while, we came to a pond with different birds. Clear signage everywhere saying please do not feed the animals, yet locals still fed chocolates and... More

That's not so wow zoo, as you may expect from such city as Shanghai. A bit far from center, but it has reasonable price of 40cny. The territory inside is a quiet place with funny and beautiful animals around. Ig has definitely less crowd than Bund, so you may walk here and rest. Zoo has 2 pandas and several red... More

The zoo is set in beautiful landscaped grounds which meant it was one of the least crowded areas I have visited in Shanghai ( it was a Tuesday during school term though). I just had to see a panda and want disappointed as there were 2! The Zoo seems to have mixed reviews, I found it to be on a... More

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighbourhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
