Many fabulous old photos and letters. Soong Ching Ling was married to Dr. Sun Yat-sen. She was educated at Wesleyan and the exhibit has some of her letters and speeches. The photos and exhibits have English translations. You could easily spend 2 hours here. We didn't have time to see the residency, but there was no charge to the museum... More

This house is located in quiet & by fashionable 淮海中路(Huaihai Middle Road) and makes a former house a memorial hole. Because some places where photography was admitted, I and my wife was able to enjoy it for appreciation enough. The garden which is full of green waited us, when I finish looking at the building generally. It is the hideaway... More

Was an unexpected visit on 01.12.2016 by dropping by Wukang building photo session. Entrance fee 20 yuan and it worth everything. The authority make this place a museum and show lots of information about Lady Soong. The house of Lady Soong still well preserved and the furniture used still there (no photo allowed in the house). Also there is a... More

Good to learn about the Republic and earlycommunist period. There are many resources in English, so you can escape the PRC twist on things.

Not knowing the history I found this place fascinating and incredible the foresight this woman had. Reading her letters, her warnings for the country (China), support for women and education of children was the heart of her mission. We spend a short time - an hour and that was enough time but this is a valuable learning place to clearly... More

It's almost impossible to believe what this lady has accomplished in her life. The displays showcased the period the time she studied in the USA at the start of the century to the achievements in her later life. It's inspiring to see an articulate woman who delivered her thoughts with conviction at a time when women with bound feet still... More

It's in the French concession region. It's a quaint little place that cost only RMB 20 entrance. If you are into history and arts, it's definitely worth a visit. A great insight into the history of modern Chinese. :)

Stopped in on a rainy day. The small museum and house tour were nice. Signs often include English, but no English guides. Ticket cost is 20 RMB.

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
