The museum is quite small and situated in Lu Xun Park. They limit the number of people entering, which at least limits the typical crowds that one experiences in Shanghai. It is an interesting collection, but it would certainly benefit any visitors to educate themselves about Lu Xun before coming.

This museum provided a clear description of the history and biography of Lu Xun, a famous Chinese writer. Although we didn't have a tour guide, its introduction and some videos already gave me a lot of information. I even got to buy some of Lu Xun's books at a cheap price!

Luxun is a famous Chinese author, and the Chinese and those who have read the works, this is a nice place to fill in the blanks. But I took one of my western friends, and without the background, she was less than impressed. Great for fans, not so great for everyone else.

Staying in Hongkou

Neighbourhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
