Once you are at the top, there are beautiful views and it is a nice place for photos, and surprisingly very friendly staff.

The building is in good condition and the devices are also good; the museum has everything explained with three languages (Chinese, English and French) and you can perceive the original mood

This is nowadays called Shanghai Astronomical Museum and provides interesting exhibition for the history of astronomical study in China. The old telescope is also nice & views from the observatory roof are very nice. Next door there is Catholic church too. Part of the museum...More

It's a nice walk to the observatory and only 12rmb to get in, but its full of rude Chinese tourists. Really, it isnt worth going.

But you do not need to spend too much time on the small hill with the cathedral. The standard of the cable car is low, the nearby restaurants terrible - but it is a nice stop on the way to other destinations in this area.
