To cross the river you can take the tunnel (very expensive) which is a bit of a cheesy attraction, the metro - fastest and cheapest way. Also you can take the ferry and have time to admire the view on both sides. It is extremely cheap and worth doing day and night for different photo opportunities.

The river area is quite beautiful. The river separates the financial district ( Bund ) from downtown Shanghai. I would recommend anyone flying to Shanghai visit this area.

A visit to the Promenade in downtown Shanghai - an interesting take if it had been clear. But sadly cold night and smog covering most of the buildings ....... from what my local friend said it has been coming over the last 2 winters. However we strolled down it after parking their car and took a few photos .... one... More

A beautiful neon experience at night, worth a boat trip around the Bund to see Shanghai in all its glory!

We live in Beijing and it’s difficult to take a stroll at night because of either the pollution or frigid temperatures. The only thing you have to watch out for here is the rain and fog. If it’s a clear night, take a light jacket and hit the river. The lights and sounds are memorable, not to mention the pics!... More

River side walk is the best place for evening.. .. view is great and good to have experience. Towers and buildings show great light effects.

Absolutely beautiful! Seeing the Shanghai skyline at night via boat cruise was the coolest thing we did in Shanghai. If you want to get the best view of the Shanghai skyline, this IS it. Don't bother going during daylight hours, the night cruise is the only one you will really want to do. The boat was pretty packed, but they... More

The huangpu river runs right through downtown Shanghai. Accessed on the subway on stops East Nanjing or Yuyan Gardens, then a walk to the riverfront. The night is the best time to visit as all the buildings are lit up in bright colours. Many, many people are there so be prepared for the crowds
