The actual shops won't bargain all that much, maybe 10-20 percent, but the vendor stalls go lower, and then you have the shops on the other floors. We bought a large duffle bag on wheels for 100 RMB, the starting price being 490. Pearls: we love dealing with Laura's; again, not much bargaining but good quality and care. Not pushy... More

I visited the Pearl Market for the first time in May 2016 after reading a trip adviser review. I returned in early March 2017 to fulfill requests from friends and family based on my previous purchases. I took a taxi to the market and was a little worried if there would be taxis for the return back to the hotel.... More

Nice mall with small shops. Mostly souvenir and clothing shops. However if you want to shop good fake brands, this is not the place to be.

Pearl Market is another tourist lure, offering largely knock-off goods at prices you need to haggle down to no more than a third of the first numbers. If you don't like to bargain, this is not for you. On three floors, with clothes on the ground floor, then pearls, then bags, watches and the rest. A quiet word may get... More

I went there when the shops were about to close so no one was really interested in luring me into buying something . Please remember the market closes at 7:30 Pm local time . You would get some good pearl item at cheap price . The formula for bargain I used is cut the price into half of what they... More

I have visited several markets in the past couple years in Shanghai and this market several times. It is not the largest market by far, but they aren't quite as aggressive as in some other ones around the city. Of course you bargain for the best price, which is half the fun. They have recently added some new stores on... More

I really don't know and I am not a fan of the bargaining that somebody find sporty and which seem to be pretty common here but there is a lot of stuff. You might find anything. I bought my daughter a large scroll painting of peonies, very colorful and a set of ink brushes for about %50. Then at a... More

WARNING Enter with full knowledge you will be overcharged. Drinks available less than 100 meters away are half the price charged here, buy one of the staff a drink and you will be charged 100 even if it's only Coca Cola. But don't blame staff, they have their instructions from owner.

Travelling by metro on line 10, we got off at Longxi Road exit 2 and turned rght. Walk to the next corner and turn right into Hongqiao Road. Keep walking until you cross the road under the flyover and you will see the market. Not as big as others in the city but some good deals to be had on... More

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighbourhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
