We are not much on Mardi Gras in our family, but we figured it would be interesting to see the history of what it was all about. There are many extravagant gowns and robes etc and a ton of history on display. The guides were very informative and enthusiastic about their history. It was worth the price of admission. If... The history here is phenominal. Photography, well informed docents, and gorgeous historical Mardi Gras court regalia make this delightful your. The on site gift shop features everything you need to celebrate in style, and if you're really lucky you may meet a former Mardi Gras Queen! We really enjoyed the visit and recommend this to anyone visiting Mobile.

The museum lies in an ornate home that was a funeral parlor beforehand, although that was surprising because it doesn't have that kind of feel at all. It was an interesting way to learn about the beginnings of Mardi Gras history that started in Mobile, AL and... More

I loved this gem of a museum, and actually returned a second day so I could finish seeing the top floor which I had missed the first day. While the focus is on the various dresses and robes worn by Mardi Gras royalty, the docents tell the full story of Mardi Gras in Mobile, the place of the first Mardi... More

Most don't realize it, but, the first Mardi Gras WAS actually held in Mobile, not New Orleans-----therefore, Mobile is truly the "birthplace" of Mardi Gras as it is known in the USA. This museum has numerous historical items and displays relative to the Mardi Gras tradition in Mobile. It is worthwhile if you are interested in this type of history.... More
