I drove from Iowa to Demopolis specifically to see the Gaineswood Mansion. I arrived mid-afternoon the Saturday of Memorial Day, but the gate was locked.

This mansion is amazing and has a lot of history. It is also originally furnished. It is absolutely a must see in Alabama and was very worthwhile the drive from Tuscaloosa.
