This is an iconic place. But its hardly patronised. Few tourists and locals amble in but that is all. The place is maintained by the State Govt but without any proper promotion. The place is located in one of the poorest settings possible to be a tourist place. No effort to improve it. Its basically a museum. The place has... More

The House is an architectural attraction of course, Kolkata once known as "The City of Palaces" - its a Palace. It aura is in the feeling that it was the house of Rabindranath Tagore.. Nobel Laureate and creator of immense Literature that perhaps supercedes the literary creations of Shakespeare. Rabindranath Tagore is a name whose works are being researched throughout... More

It was a rainy day raining profusely when we decided to go on touring old Kolkata (North). Travelled by Tram, Jorasanko is a place near Chitpur. A big palace, now maintained by the State Govt, Heritage site. The place where Rabindranath Tagore was born, historical walkthrough. There is an entry fee at the entrance but it is worth visit

As you get off the narrow and congested Chitpur Road and turn into the alley on which Thakurbari stands , the first thing to strike you is the sheer size of the edifice . There are several such ' palaces ' in North Calcutta but this one stands out not only for its imposing stature but because of its aura... More

The ancestral residence of the legendary Bengali "Renaissance man" and nobel laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, this palacial mansion has been converted into a fascinating museum to comprehensively depict the life and creations of this great man.

Showcases Rabindranath Tagore's life and works. Also focuses on his family quite a bit. Quiet place and one of the best ways to spend an afternoon looking up one of the best writers in modern literature.

It is a situation in congested North Calcutta roads. However, once you are inside, it is peaceful and tranquil. I recommended visiting by public transport. Entry fee is nominal Rs 10 though more for foreigners. You can take photos in ground floor only. Photography not allowed in upstairs rooms. You need to leave your shoes off before going upstairs. The... More

A piece of history this beautiful bungalow/thakur bari. Most exhibits have English commentary a few in bengali which might leave a few frustrated. A well preserved place with Gurudev Rabindranath personal memorabilia and paintings. Worth a visit.
