Cannot call it a place of worship. It is very dirty with dogs loitering and littering all around. Dont fall for people who take money for darshan and ignore the curses they shower on you when you refuse to take their services.

Only visit if you definitely want to. Lot of touts and cheats stand in dhotis right where you alight cab or vehicles. They can demand anything between 500-2000 and will be at each stage. So be very careful. If possible reach there with minimum cash and valuables so that they cannot extort you.

We spent a few days in Kolkata and decided to visit this temple as my mother is a huge fan of Kali. We went with a guide that we met in the street who provided a pundit and proceeded through the VIP line. If the line we were in was VIP, I dread to think what the normal line was.... More

A great experience, the temple possesses a lot of character, it is a shame that you cannot fully savour the surroundings due to pandits trying to cash in on you if you look like an out of towner. The place is quite dirty and very crowded but this adds to the atmosphere. It's not tranquil like other temples and feels... More

It was a nice experience to visit the old and famous Kalighat temple. Little rush was there, we had to stay in que for an hour and half. Beware of local pandits, who will follow you from the main road itself

The temple has significant historical relevance but for the touts not worth a visit. The place is filthy. The temple administration need to act to clean up the place and make it tourist friendly. Better avoided.

I am a devotee of Maa and I was really excited to visit this Adi Shakti Peeth which is very sacred for Hindus However the presence of thugs in the form of Pandas (Pseudo-Priests) really spoils the divine atmosphere. They blackmail you into paying money and curse you if you refuse to pay. Within the temple there is a battery... More
