Description:

The Happy Valley Tea Estate caresses the misty hills of Darjeeling,...

The Happy Valley Tea Estate caresses the misty hills of Darjeeling, overlooking the fertile Himalayan foothills. Established in 1854, its history is closely entwined with the origins and cultivation of Darjeeling tea. This garden, located in the town of Darjeeling, is home to spectacularly lush fields, endowed with a natural, breath taking charm. At Happy Valley respect for nature is expressed through the organic and bio-dynamic method of farming.

Happy Valley invites you to immerse yourself in the culture, history and tradition of the region by witnessing the process by which fresh tea leaves are withered, rolled, fermented, dried, sorted and graded to produce a variety of teas; the traditional black tea, green tea and the exquisite speciality teas.

A guided tour of the Happy Valley tea factory offers visitors a glimpse of the fascinating process of manufacturing tea. The tea tasting session, curated for first-timers, is conducted at the end of the tour, where one can discover the legendary flavour of Happy Valley organic Darjeeling teas.

Happy Valley teas are available in retail packs at the factory boutique for sale.

Very well made tour to show tourist how tea is made. The entry charge for adults was Rs 100 each. Mr Mukund Rai assisted us to see the factory. We saw their tea gardens and saw how women keep the Basket on their head and collect the leaves. At the end there is a shop where you can taste and... More

Happy tea valley is very easy to reach with the free ride departing from uptown near Nehru park. The minibus leaves at 9:30, 10:45, 12:00,1:30,2:45 and 4pm and will drop you back at the same point. The ride is free but the tour will cost you 100rupees per person and will include a tea tasting and a tour with a... More

We were recommended a visit to happy valley by Darjeeling tourism office and it was a great suggestion! We had a nice tour around the factory and a detailed explanation of the process with a tasting at the end. They mentioned they were hoping to have the addition of a cafe or an area you could have more tea at... More

We we visited the place in the afternoon on a Sunday and the estate tea processing was stopped by that time. However, the guide explained the processing of different types of tea. At the end of the tour, the let you taste 8 or nine varieties of tea, so one can get a better understanding of tea processing.

Nice place to learn. Would have been better if they would include the cup of tea in the itinerary. One would not mind paying a little more for the same.

This is not a must visit spot as one can see a lot of tea estates on the way to & from Darjiling . But be sure not to purchase anything here , as you are most likely to be cheated here .

At the outset I have to say that I was underwhelmed by our visit here. While you do get a guide, who speaks English, taking you through the process the tour really doesn't offer anything more than a 'look here' or 'look there'. The end of the tour does offer tea tasting although I suspect this is heavily linked to... More
