It's an ancient Shaiva Temple built during 9th century. The deity is famously known by names, Nanjundeshwara or Srikanteshwara. The temple is built on the banks of river kapila. There would be very long queue for darshan of lord Shiva on Sundays and Mondays.

The temple is at a distance of 25 km from Mysore. We reached here in evening. Luckily there was no Que. So we have darshan with ease. This is an ancient and well-known temple of Lord Shiva. Do visit when you are at Mysore.
