A must experience boat ride. Early morning views on a clear day were absolutely beautiful. We all really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to others. Really pretty.

It is just a very huge lake. Took a ferry ride and it went to 2 other areas. 1st - to buy the famous Ah Po tea eggs (Delicious!) 2nd to the main shopping area. Spent 1 hr exploring the whole place. There were supposedly alot of attractions but were not accessible via the ferry. Will not recommended to visit... More

Sun Moon Lake is in a cooler area of Taiwan and pleasant to visit in the summertime. Lots of activities. We choose bicycle riding. A lot of fun, but the bike route does not go along the whole lake (which would be a lot more fun). Part of the bike route had some long stairs which were quite slippery after... More

The lake is very serene so make sure you get a boat ride. Make sure you go in nice weather with sun and breeze!

The lake's waters are beautiful and the mountains around offer an atmosphere of quietness and harmony. There are several temples to see, for people who love walking, there are different trails that allow you to go from one to another. For people who don't like walking, there is a bus that goes around the lake and stops at every location.

For instance, you may want to skip taking the ropway as it is around 300ntd a ticket and you may not see much on a cloudy day. Also, you could avoid the shops scattered around the lake selling souvenirs and "Sun moon lake" snacks. If the weather is good, consider cycling along the bike trail. I ended up walking down... If you're expecting a beautiful, peaceful and serene lake, this isn't the place for you. The piers are crowded with tour groups and shops - the ferries are old and most of them, you can't stand outside. The best places to see the view is at the temples, and having a car is the best way to get there. But... More

It's about an hour and a half from Taichung station. Buy the package from the HSR to get there. The view there is nice and the people are very friendly. Do note that the shops closes pretty early and by 8pm its abit of a ghost town. So those who need supper, the only available shop is the 24hrs 7-11... More

A chill out place & the lake is just beautiful with the mountains in the backdrop. 看到曰月潭 的 Daybreak,我也同意它很有西湖feel , 令我想起三月初時的杭州西湖之旅. Generalissimo 也在日月潭周邊建築了一些pagodas. 只不過沒有壓著小白的雷風鎝!

Things around here might be touristy, but this lake is just beautiful with the mountains in the backdrop. beware of the touting that goes on around docks. Only buy tickets from authorised sellers and not the ones badgering people on the docks
