Lacks maintenance
Feb 2021
For a museum, it is being maintained poorly. There were ants running around the walls too!!
Love the artefacts that were located in their gallery room.

this museum house ancient objects such as water pipes and other items found during excavations at sigiriya rock fortress. it also has a depiction of how sigiriya would be looking in olden times. great place to visit as it has a lot of objects associated with history of sigiriya.

So informative

sigiriya museum is a very important place to visit every visitor before climb the rock. one of the best archaeological Museum shows the in situ conservation about the historical remains and very informative. Sigiriya visit is not just a climb a rock. there are so many information to understand about the development of the ancient civilization and engineering techniques. this museum is an ideal place to gain this all information. also this is a great place for the people with disabilities to climb the whole rock. you can see so many replicas and models of the real site and easy accessibility even wheelchairs users. if anyone just want to visit museum there is a separate ticket for the less price.

Informative but overpriced
Feb 2020 • Couples
If you climb Lion Rock (30USD per person) the museum is included - making the museum worthwhile. However, if you wish to just view the museum, it’s 1,800LKR (10USD) per person which is ridiculous for what it is. Yes it is interesting, but I would not recommend as it is a small museum and very overpriced.

Good reproduction of the frescos
Feb 2020 • Couples
As with many museums here it is not extensive but comes as part of the rock entrance so might as well go around. The best bit is probably the reproduction of the wall paintings on the rock face. The building itself is quite interesting as it seems to have been constructed around trees.
There’s lots of wildlife and birds in the area - monkeys and special birds

Well worth the visit
Dec 2019
If you visit Sigiriya, we strongly recommend that you also visit the Museum which is very good. The first room contains old photos of the early days when it was found by Colonial researcher Bell.

However, the real highlight is in the second part of the museum which is extensive and very explanatory.

If you find yourself at Sirigiya in bad weather than don’t miss this opportunity.
