It was my first visit to Dambakola Patuna, and it seems a new temple done at this point where Sangamitta Thraniya landed in Sri Lanka with the Bo Sapling.

If you visit Jaffna you must visit this temple where the most sacred segment of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya was first brought into Sri Lanka. The beach is so beautiful and the temple is being maintained very well by the military.

The Navy personal explains the history of the temple which is very helpful. The beach next to the temple looked beautiful. However, the road leading to the temple is not carpeted hence takes time to reach than you think.

This is one of the earliest sea ports in Lanka where the Ven. Sangamitta the daughter of Emperor Ashoka of India brought a sapling of the Bo tree that the Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment. The temple is well maintained & an ideal place to meditate.

An ancient port with historical values... According to the known history sri sangamitta has brought a branch of sacred bo tree to sri lanka from this port. Nothing can be seen there except newly built temple and monuments.

This is another spot worth visiting to observe some peace and quietness and see the local buddhist devotees take part in their daily relegious duties. Observe silence, modest dress and no footwear
