This name derives from the mechanism installed in the church tower in 1793. The clock and the moon are the work of George Rueppe, an innovative mechanic from Oradea. The mechanism rotating the moon is designed to make a full rotation on its axis in 28 days, thus indicating the moon phases, depending on the daily cycle marked by the clock mechanism. Inside the Moon Church you can visit a representative museum, with particularly beautiful Orthodox church-related objects.

Maybe you visit enough churches in your lifetime. What is the unique element that make this place so special? Is the MOON ! We can see the phases of that special satellite even if the time is in middle of the day.

This is one of several buildings at the plaza. It is definitely worth a quick look. Ask about the history of the church.

A large and interesting church with a nice history. If you are in Oradea you can stop by and admire it, being right in the middle of the city. We had our wedding ceremony there.

Situated in the center of the city the moon church is easy accessible by different means of transport . The moon phase mechanism is the original one, and still working. The church is renovated outside, and great inside. Worth a visit!

An interesting building in Oradea, a great church inside. The moon that is located on the tower is a wonderful technique and the ball is following Moon's phases.

It seems like that in the new refurbished Oradea square, this masterpiece is not working after technicians tried to discover how the moon system worked. Anyway, the church is still a place to visit.
