We wanted to achive some glacier hiking/climbing and in Lonely planet is Monttrek recommended. Once we entered the agency, it looked really good. The guy from agency - Pocho looked like an experienced guide. He sold us one day trip to Pico Mateo and immediatelly we tried the gear to trip. Even he recommended us what to eat and what not before the trip. So far we had good feeling about our journey. But the day of trip didnt start good. Expected time of departure was 3:30. After 30 minutes we called to the number from ticket - didnt exist. Than we called to the number from official website - didnt work. We find other number from google and Pocho asked us to wait. The car came at 4:15 - 45 minutes delayed. The car was Toyota Yaris and for the average size europ

First time in Peru and love Monttrek! Gear rental is all in good shape, transportation is on time, and guides are professional and experienced. Will definitely go back next time, they are helpful for everything from routes to conditions to organized trips.

I did the 3-day Quilcayhuanca-Trek with Monttrek. The guide was very friendly and the price was good, even more compared to other agencies in Huaraz! Of course this is not a super well organised tour agency with fluent english-speaking guides, but that's why you pay less than half of what these agencies want! In fact Pocho, the owner, wrote me a message at 10 in the evening the day before the trek saying there is availability for Quilcayhuanca, as there was not before. So i showed up at 7 in the morning the next day, we figured everything out and at 8 we were sitting in the car on our way to Quilcayhuanca. It's a bit more easy-going, that's what i liked about them. We met nobody on the 3-day-trek, which was also nice!

The setting of this camping trip was absolutely astounding. Beautiful mountains closely border a valley filled with cows and horses. We saw two foxes, at least six condors soaring high near the peaks, a pair of long-tailed rabbits (“viscachas”), and incredible waterfalls courtesy of the rainy season. Our guide made us a fine meal of salted fresh avocados on plain bread for lunch on our first day of hiking. Regrettably, the seasonal rains made the pass into our second day impassible, so our trip followed the same route out as in to the valley. One can’t control the weather, especially in the mountains, and we were so stunned by the beauty of the place, and soft ground of our campsite, that we had no real complaints about not completing our proposed journey. Be prepared when traveling in February for plans to change. A positive attitude helps in these situations. The tent was top notch and excellently waterproof. Our guide did not speak English fluently as promised, and one trekking pole did not fully extend. We were forced to pay for our ride back to Huaraz to get to a second leg of our trip in Willkayan(so?) and it seemed like plans and communication between us and our guide and the office was a little lost in translation and confusing. The office staff though, with booking and accommodating us with gear and rides from Huaraz to our second destination, were superb. Borrowed boots were great (again, plan to get wet this time of year) and this was an incredible glimpse of untouched trails without many fellow travelers.

I've just come back from the 3day trek Cojup-Quilcayhuanca (Wild Trek) organised by Monttrek and it has been a unique and great experience. We got lucky the first day because we got dropped off way further in the valley than usually, so we managed to make the trek in two days which was a good decision because of the weather. The views were breathtaking, the trek was hard since we carried all the equipment with us, my guide Ernando was super friendly, everything was perfect. If you like trekking and don't need any luxury, I can totally recommend this trek to you!
