It takes about 20 minutes to walk there from Aguas Callientes and went there after visiting Machu Picchu. Lots of information about Machu Picchu and Inca civilisation which gave a greater appreciation the place and the people.

We went to this museum after spending a day at Macchu Picchu and another at Wayna Picchu. The museum really helped to tie all of the information together after having seen it for ourselves! It's in a strange location (30 min walk out of town)...More

Kind of an oddly located museum about a 30-minute walk along the river from Aguas Calientes, the town nearest Machu Picchu. Still, the place is an absolute must-visit if you don't have a guide during your Machu Picchu visit -- or simply want to deepen...More

The museum is located outside of Aguas Calientes, about a 30 minute walk. It is well worth the time. The story of Machu Picchu, from its inception to its re-discovery by Hiram Bingham, was shared through artifacts and written displays. The information helped us better...More

Be prepared to walk to this one; it's about a half hour walk from Aguas Calientes townsite. Very interesting reading and artifacts on the Inca culture.

We walked to the museo from Aguas Calientes the day before we went to Machu Picchu. I appreciated learning about the history of the area, along with the knowledge the residents of Machu Picchu imparted on the land (such as creating microclimates by terracing). The...More

There's a market for an interpretive museum to put Machu Picchu. And while this museum is pretty good, with attractive displays...it somehow leaves a dissatisfied feeling. Perhaps it's because it's at a basic level...but most people there have already done a bit of reading to...More

We took a nice hike to this museum and saw many things on the way. Just over the bridge this museum is a great way to learn a bit more about Inca culture and Machupicchu before trekking up. The fee also includes admission to the...More

You can walk but it will take about 45 mins. The buses to MP go past it but will not drop you off! The only other way would be a taxi. I don't know the opening hours but you can check that on their website.
