I almost psyched myself out reading some of the reviews here but I am so glad and proud to have completed the hike! We stayed at Casa Mauro and were referred to Danilo of Cultu Natural (Whatsapp: +505 83647211, email: cultunatural@yahoo.com). Danilo came to the...More

Just because you’re on an island with 2 volcanos, doesn’t mean you need to kill yourself climbing one. Decent views at the top but I actually found the views nicer around the island in certain cases.

Hiking Volcan Concepción is not for the faint hearted. It’s quite the challenge!! The hike to the peak of this active volcano is 7.5km long (15km return). The first 2.5kms is flat-ish terrain that is not too rough. The remaining 5km has an incline of...More

If any of you are like me and my partner, you will psych yourself out reading the reviews of this volcano, because the descriptions of how difficult/dangerous/scary/etc are pretty accurate. But I'm here to tell you, you can do it. For reference, I am someone...More

18km, 1500meters STRAIGHT UP in potentially muddy, bugs and humid conditions. Make sure to have walking stick and plenty of water/food. Best if you use muscles for climbing/descinding prior to trip. You can negotiate a price of a guide. I paid $27 for everything through...More

Great place to walk around it and quite a hike to get on top. Its a 8-10 hour round trip and very steep on top. Can only be done in good weather. Well worth it but hard work !

We have just finished the La Sabana Conception hike and read/heard so many different reviews before we started so wanted to get everything down before the "lows" disappeared from our memories. Before you continue reading if you asked us if we'd ever climb the volcano...More

Hiking up volcan Concepcion took just less than 8 hours for us. We hired a guide and paid 40$usd for him. He had a machete which came in handy to clear some paths and he made us walking sticks! The first part of going up...More

We were GRANDPAcking in Ometepe for 6 nights. This trek is not for the light-hearted. Nelly at the Tecali organised it for US$20. This was for 1 person with his own guide. My 21-year-old son did it. He was picked up by his guide at...More

We had an amazing hike up the volcano. A bit of cloud up the top so couldn’t see the crater entirely clearly but some stunning views over the lake and the surrounding mainland and mountains. Could feel hot steam from the small vents near the...More

It depends! If you are planning on going right to the top, you need proper hiking shoes. The section above the look-out-point is steep, rocky and covered in little ball-like bits of lava that make it hard work. If you only... More
