Arrived about 11am and there only a few people there. Nice and chilled. Good place to cool off during a cycle. Don’t forget the sunscreen, The Nicaraguan sun burns!

One of the most magical places in Nicaragua is the natural waterhole Ojo de Agua on Ometepe Island. This place has a beautiful setting, with plenty of straw covered cabanas to sit under and hammocks to relax in and the crystal clear waters of these natural pools come straight from a nearby volcano! This is a must visit destination in Nicaragua.
Ojo de Agua literally translates to “Eye of Water” it is the word in Spanish that means waterhole or natural spring. We’ve seen a few signs saying “Ojo de Agua” all around Nicaragua, but the natural spring on Ometepe Island is the most famous one in the country. The beautiful turquoise waters Ojo de Agua Ometepe Island come from an underground river which flows from Volcán Concepción. In recent years it has become a popular destination for both tourists and locals. To accommodate this growth in demand they have made some additions to the site such as a car park and a larger restaurant. There are bathroom facilities available, which we found to be well maintained and in excellent condition.
Ojo de Agua has something for everyone. It's a great family spot with a lot of nice little spots to relax and enjoy the scenery. Ojo de Agua is a great place to come to relax. There are plenty of spots where you can sit under the shade of trees or cabanas and admire the beautiful surroundings. It’s the perfect spot to bring a book and chill in a hammock or enjoy a meal with friends or family. You can bring your own food or else there’s food available for purchase. There’s a restaurant on site or you can get food and drinks brought to you poolside. The restaurant is open all day that offers breakfasts for US $ 4 or US $ 5 and lunches from US $ 8 to US $ 16.
There are two pools in the Ojo de Agua complex. The pools have a depth that varies between 50cm and 3.5m (1.5-12 feet) and the lower pool is over 40m (130 feet) long. The pools are filled with cool natural mineral water with comes from an underground well in the upper pool. The temperature of the pools is around 24-26°C.
Ojo de Agua is a photographer’s paradise. There are plenty of scenic spots to capture the perfect pic, including swings that are perched over the water.
Ojo de Agua also has a lot of activities for people that are up for a bit more adventure. There is a slack line over the water for you to test your balance or a rope swing for you to swing into the water. After you swim you can relax under a cabana or a hammock
If you are in the mind for a cocktail by the pool, you can also try out a coco loco, which is a rum based cocktail served in a freshly cut coconut. A coco loco costs 80 cordobas or a coconut on its own costs 25 cordobas.
Once you've finished your swim you can also do a small hike along a walking trail. This takes around half an hour to loop around and you should see many birds reptiles and lots more. The highlight of the hike is a lookout point which gives you unfettered views of Volcán Concepción. This lookout point is only a 10 minute walk from the car park and is definitely worth checking out.
Entry to Ojo de Agua is $5 USD per person, or 175 cordobas.
A day pass which includes lunch and entry costs $12.70 USD per person.

We were so happy we made it to Ojo de Agua while we were on Ometepe. We had a lot of activities to do and managed to squeeze two hours in at this place. Once we got there, we realized that we definitely should’ve planned for more time! It’s so gorgeous and so much fun! There’s rope swing, slack line, swings, showers, a restaurant, clean bathrooms, and little shops. The price is more expensive than most things in Nicaragua, but good in comparison to a similar experience in other countries.

Still giving this a 4 star. You can get spoiled in Nicaragua feeling like nature’s treasures are “yours,” and Ojo de Aqua might feel a bit crowded in comparison. However, comparing it to any popular pool in the US or Europe, and it compares very favorable. $5 entrance fee, and quite some spots to sit. Super clear water, with lots of small fish to admire. The location is incredible, nestled in the green.

Maybe downsides:
- Seems to attract the “worst” beachgoers and tourists (e.g. loud music, alcohol usage)
- The food was pretty awful
- Relatively big dogs begging for food, if you mind that (relatively well behaved I should say)
- Relatively uncomfortable seating / chairs

As a Nicaraguan, i feel blessed to have been given the opportunity of been born in a country where you can take a ferry and visit such an enchanting island like Ometepe. You know for sure that on every dirt trail or paved road there are aventures awaiting for you whether you are an adrenaline junkie or a peace of mind seeker. Ojo de agua is such a paradise sorrounded by clear, pristine water and warm people always eager to share something about this magical place. If you get the chance and have some hours to spend at the island, visit ojo de agua and you will know what i mean.

We went to Ojo de Agua by scooter from Playa Santa Domingo. You can also get there by local bus but there is a long beautiful lane you must walk if you go that way. It is beautifully set up and the mineral waters are very clean and fresh and flowing constantly. There’s a lot of stuff there. Restaurant, cafe, bathrooms, changing rooms, bar and a walk through a banana plantation. There were lots of tourists and locals there when we were there and we were told that on weekends it is full of local families and much more busy. The feeling of the place was soothing and green and the water fresh and the perfect temperature to cool down in. The tarzan swing was fun to watch too! We found the amenities a little more pricey than elsewhere so take some snacks if you’re on a budget. There is a sign in the entrance asking people not to wear sunscreen or bug dope as it kills the fish, but as there were no showers to rinse it off most people were ignoring that. We didn’t wear sunscreen and got a little sunburned so be aware of that. A truly beautiful place to relax and refresh. On the way back we saw both howler and capuccino monkeys on or near the road.

Lovely place for a hot day. Relaxed atmosphere. 2 big pools and natural clear mineral water at the perfect temperature. A tarzan rope and a few fun things for small kids and big kids ( read adults) to play with. A few tables and chairs to hand out en enjoy the day in. At time of writing this 5$ US entry fee per person.

We just dropped in for an hour after arriving on the Island. It was a Saturday so busy, but fun to see the locals all enjoying themselves. The sparkling clear water in a lovely forest setting is refreshing but not cold. It had a chilled family vibe, with food and beers served around the pool.

I wasn't allowed 10 min before closing time even if I was to pay the whooping 5usd fee for entrance. I could see the pool which was some water with concrete corners. Yes, there is some vegetation, but there were a lot of people and it didn't look like a relaxing place. Plus, I was taken aback by how I was poorly treated by the guards. They didn't even let me use the restrooms out but water.
