I am giving four stars to the Merzouga dunes just for one thing: the cars and bikes that are allowed to be there. We were in our camel ride and instead of getting lost in the moment and been able to absorb that amazing and spectacular sand sea we were constantly distracted by the sounds of cars and bikes there.... Fun area outside of Jaisalmer with loads of companies and private individuals offering camel rides, dune tours and keep trips. If you have never been on a camel, don't miss this opportunity ! Best time to go is early evening when the sun is setting and light on the dunes is beautiful.

A must visit when in Morocco, the golden sea of sand will offer an unfoergetable experience, away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities like Marrakech or Fez. I highly recommend staying in the desert overnight, the silence hurts, the stars are the brightest ever and the food...well...I was lucky being able to enjoy a hot meal cooked... More

It is an amazing place to tour at least once in your lifetime. I am glad that I have the opportunity to visit Merzouga Dunes during my this trip to Morocco 🇲🇦 this February 2017.

The Dunes themselves are beautiful with unique ochre with a pink undertone colored sand. If you look at them on Google maps- it's just a tiny patch of it amongst the black stone desert on the border with Algeria. Unfortunately they have been transformed to the giant playground for the visitors (and by the visitors as well as locals) .... More

Walking through sand dunes demands good condition and stamina. We did train on mountain tours lasting five or six hours, but that was not enough for what came along.

A good tip is to go to Merzouga yourself and not with a tour from Marrakech, so you have enough time

We went by Camel to a nomadtent to sleep in. I am not sure if the Camels were really happy, but the guide did love them a lot, you could tell. The ride through the dunes was special and the campsite was nice. Once the fire started and we had warmed op a bit, we could really enjoy the breathtaking... More

This was our first trip to the desert and it was one of the highlights of our time in Morocco. The stillness and sparse beauty. We wished we had had better cameras to capture the play of shadows when the sun goes down and comes up. Cant wait to get back and experience it again

Exotic and historical, this was well worth the stop. The camel ride was fun and the dunes at sunset were magical. We saw numerous fossils in the rockbed out cropping. One could imagine the camel caravans coming across the desert.
