My review is aiming to give some useful information to the ones planning the trip. So to set the expectations correctly, this is not going to be an emotional text. Deramakot is a good place to see wildlife, the camp is located in the middle of the jungle. The road takes around 2 hours from Telupid and it requires 4x4.... More

Beautiful rainforest with full of wild animals (gibbons, civets,..) The best birthday present was to spot a wild male orangutan there:) Binoculars or long zoom camera are essential.

Deramakot -- You know that sense of wonder, intrigue and deep heartfelt dissonance that resonates within the final scene of Jurassic Park, set amongst the welcome center just before the T-Rex and Velociraptors turn it into a tattered relic? As the audience is left with that pit in their stomach question about how man’s domineering effect over the kingdom of... More

I've now spent two trips (total of 7 nights) at Deramakot Forest Reserve with Adventure Alternative Borneo and their excellent guide and driver. It is my favorite lowland location in Sabah. The mammal opportunities here are superb--orangutans, flying squirrels (we were even fortunate enough to see a pygmy flying squirrel!) and civets galore, leopard cats, colugos, proboscis monkeys if you... A LOONG bumpy drive through oil palm plantations and then jungle brings you to an oasis in the heart of Deramakot Forest Reserve. The large, neatly landscaped forest headquarters offer rooms in clean, comfortable chalets (with A/C, hot and cold water and 24 h power), a large dining hall, and superb bird watching in the gardens. We travelled in here... More

I had a real pleasant stay here in this remote place in the middle of green wild Jungle. The guesthouses were clean and the food was good. Helpfull staff en great guides who like to show you as much wildlife as possible, I would recommend to go for some spotlighting. We had sightings of elephants and orangutan here. The overall... Deramakot forest is by far the best kept secret in Borneo for wild life. We went with Adventure alternative Borneo and had an amazing guide in Mike.Beyond every expectation and I could happily stay there for months. It has everything in the wildlife check list and with Mike we able to see most of it. Wish I had stayed longer.... More

Spent a couple of days and nights doing safaris' with the team from Alternative Adventures Borneo. What can I say apart from "Simply incredible". Up until then we normally holidayed on resorts and this time decided to do something different and so glad we did ! We definitely wouldn't have seen as much magnificent wildlife while we were there if... More

I have been to most of famous conservation areas or forest reserves of Sabah, incl. Danum Valley, Maliau Basin, Imbak Canyon, Tabin, Kinabatangan, etc., but Deramakot is the best place ever for mammal watching safari, especially night safari for wild cats. I spent 1 week in Deramakot, and saw 1 very rare marbled cat, many leopard cats, 2 Binturongs, 3... More

I spend 8 days, and most importantly nights, at Deramakot Forest Reserve. It is one of the best safaris I have been on because I saw almost every mammal I wanted and I experienced so much. I had Mike as a guide, Lang as a driver and Addie as cook (even a great spotter during the night drives) and everything... More
