Go To Tsavo East in Kenya For A Spectacular Safari!
Spent four days on safari in Tsavo East and West National Parks in Kenya and was lucky enough to see most of the big five (and some of the small five) animals. Booked this as a private tour in Watamu with an experienced guide (jonathan baya) and using a Land Cruiser owned by Tabia Safaris (driver was Baraku) at a very reasonable price for two people. Stayed at Ngulia Safari Lodge for 2 nights in Tsavo East and 2 nights self catering at Half Way House overlooking Tsavo East. Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Lion, Leopard, Ostrich, Water Buffalo, Gazelle and Hippos (at Mzima Springs) were plentiful. The accommodation for both parks was sufficient unto our needs and the food was good at the Lodge. Would thoroughly recommend taking time out from a beach holiday at Watamu to visit both Tsavo East and West to see the animals in their environment.

Biggest and best park in Kenya for Elephants
This is Kenya's biggest park and in my opinion the best park in Africa. Amazing herds of Elephant families and you can see all the other big five in addition to Crocs and Hippos in the river. Best time to go is July in the dry season where you can see everything. Additionally, my two preschool boys thought the landscape reminded them of the Lion King. My family travels to Kenya twice a year, but Tsavo East in the dry season remains our favorite. The park is huge so you will need a couple of days to see everything but it's worth it. The only thing we would have done differently would have been to enter the park from Malindi or Mombasa instead of taking the SGR to Voi station. The train is really hard on families with small children and elderly parents. it is actually cheaper and faster to just drive from the coastal towns than use SGR. Having said that once you enter the park, it is amazing.

    Aggressive lions & elephants!
We weren't even in the park for 10 minutes before we saw two lionesses take down a Cape buffalo. Some of the bull elephants were in musth, with gland secretions, and their manhood dragging the ground. They would flap their ears out and lift their trunks to sniff our identity.

Huge national park, but experienced guides are able to find and give you time to photograph most, if not all, of the typical inhabitants in their natural environment.

Biggest park in Kenya, just almost 14000 sq km (!) Animals living free in its natural environment. Due to huge area of the park, you can just see a fraction of it. Local drivers communicate throu shortwave transmitters, sharing information on spots. Colours in park are breathtaking. Red soil, green plants, blue sky, white clouds, colourful birds, brown grey animals. Ask driver to stop somewhere and turn off engine - hear sound of silence of the nature. Absolutely fantastic experience.

We stayed in the park and visit the Tsavo West too. The accommodation was fantastic and the staff incredible. Our safari driver Kevin Onyi Omondi (aka Bob) was fantastic, with great knowledge of animals and shortcuts to save us time. We where able to see lions, zebra, buffalo, elephant, baboon, monkeys, giraffe, impala, and the list goes on. The park was just starting to show signs of rebirth after the draught. Many animals taking advantage to grown and enjoy water.
Parks fees for non residents was 52 USD entry, this could also be paid in shilling, and by card. I note this as the last time we visited massi Mara we paid 80 USD and needed correct money in USD.

We were so lucky to have a local to drive us and show us the sights . This was my first safari and I did not know what to expect and I was blown away . The size off the park is as large as Wales and it is left to nature running wild . We just travelled around the tracks and easily spotted Elephants, lions, ostrich, hippos to name just a few . The camps and watering holes are teeming with life despite to survive this harsh, challenging environment.
