About
Phong Dien Floating Market is 20 kilometers southwest of Can Tho, the best floating market in the Mekong Delta. Boats loaded with produce from nearby orchards of the Mekong Delta converge to the floating market. They carry mostly fruits but also coconuts, vegetables and fishes. The market is at its bustling best between 5am and 8am.

My boyfriend and I spent great day with Loan on her boat. We chose the long tour, so we saw both floating markets, small canals, rice noodle factory, factory for sweets and we had nice lunch in the garden. Loan was very nice and friendly, she knows a lot about nature and Vietnam and she is really good at handiwork. It was private tour just for 2 of us and the price she gave us was much cheaper than from hotel.
She speaks some English and you can contact her on WhatsApp (+84 90 845 57 18)

We loved our trip to the Phong Dien Floating Market. Very scenic and just plain darn interesting. We loved the vegetables/whatever hanging from the poles - that's how the boats let you know what they have in stock. Our tour guide got us coffees from a boat coffee vendor.

This is a smaller but more authentic market and a great spot for photography as the early morning light is just perfect. Glad we visited this market too as it gave us a different glimpse of local life than the bigger Cai Rang Markets.

Phong Dien starts around 4-5AM everyday and busiest around 7-8AM, located just 17km away from the centre of Can Tho. This floating market is among the busiest floating market with abundant and diverse products like fruits, vegetables, foods, household items, gasoline and working tools. Yet it's still much smaller than Cai Rang Floating Market. There're some cafes on the buildings along the river where you can enjoy the views over the market

I booked the trip though L’Escale that took in Cai Răng and Phong Dien. The market is small but lovely and the views on the ride home were just lovely. My boatman was called Tom. I’m good with chopsticks and am proud to say I managed not to spill my noodle soup. The boat had good shade cover but take a hat if you want great photos because you’ll want the top down at times.

If you are not a big fan of touristy areas, I would love to recommend you to visit Phong Dien Floating Market during your time in Can Tho city, Vietnam. This market’s size is smaller than Cai Rang Floating Market because it is considered as retailed market. It would be better to visit this market as early as possible (around 5.30-6.00am) in order to experience the busiest time.

This Market is smaller than Cai Rang Floating Market and you need to wake up extremely early to reach there Early otherwise you will Lose the Market. This smaller place with Less Tourists afford you More opportunity to take pure and unique photos.
but definitely Need to go to Car Rang Market after this to see much more things but with more crowd.
we went there by tour of Mekong Rustic.

I knew that coming here by boat would take long time. So I pedalled by bicycle before dawn and arrived here past 6AM. The floating market is not difficult to find because it can be seen from the road at a confluence of the Can Tho River opposite the land-based market.

Just cross the bridge to the other bank and find the entrance to the riverside cafes that offer the best view. There is another bridge upstream to reach further the other bank of the confluence.

Unlike the bigger Cai Rang floating market, the Phong Dien floating market features smaller boats and great view from the river bank. Some cafes even have viewing towers. Ordered Ca Phe Sua Da (iced coffee). The owner opened the shutters for better view (Yes, I was so early the cafe was still closed) . Then I bought Xoi La Cam (sticky rice) from a lady on a boat. A surprise that these are not overpriced (same price as land-based street food).
The hustle and bustle is seen as various kinds of products get transferred from one boat to the other. This is the part that tourists should see. But there was only one tourist today: Me!

I tried to count the boats, about 20 ~ 30. However, as the hour passed, they start to dissipate. Anyone coming here after 8AM will just see a few boats parked possibly just waiting for the next market day.

Super disappointed by the 2 floating markets- this is the smaller one of the two. Maybe 20 boats trading vegetable in total .... not worth paying for a tour...

At this market there are several cafes with a terrace from which you can watch the markets. If you absolutely must visit than take a taxi from the city there, have a coffee at the terrace and watch the markets from there
