Explore World War II Scenes in Kanchanaburi

As they said, war benefits nobody, therefore the younger generations should learn something from older ones's mistakes so that we'll be able to do something different and get something better in the future. The WWII tour in Kanchanaburi will somehow let you all get deep down into what ever happened in Thailand during the Second World War.

Enjoyed the view from Pom Pee and the boat ride from Sangklaburi. Some interesting half submerged temples to be seen.

Khao Laem Lake is a big lake behind Vajiralongkorn damm. After building the damm villages and their temples where flooded and the temple went partially or totally underwater. You can take a boat tour from Mon bridge, which is the longest wooden pedestrian bridge in Thailand. The boat would take you to the sites of underwater temples and to historic temples that are still on dry banks. It is a far away, few hours car drive from Bangkok to near Myanmar border beyond Kanchanaburi but worth visiting. Mon bridge in Sangkhla buri is fun to walk on at sunrise to look at the lake and the mist/fog on its surface.

The lake/national park was extended some 25 years ago when the dam was built that flooded not only the now famous (underwater) temple, but lots of land. It's always worth to take a boat ride - long tail boats available from the bridge at 300.- THB for about an hour and various stops.

Took a nice 60 minute tour by longtail boat. Was by myself and paid 300b. I boarded at the base of the wooden bridge and the driver cruised me around to some interesting sights. At one point he dropped me off on shore across the lake to visit a dilapidated temple on a hilltop. Not really worth the trouble. I was on the lake from 9AM to 10AM. Most people recommend a sunrise tour, which for me didn't happen (wink). Felt that this was worth the money. Also, there are food and drinks for sale at the "dock".

This is a beautiful place. They have several hotels in town (Thong Pha Phum) and also river bungalows/houses similar to camping or glamping conditions. We stayed at VIP Floatel and the food was good, iced coffee delicious, room bungalow overlooking the dam decent enough. Simple, 1 plug, 1 TV, nothing fancy. Staff speaks a little English. Can swim in the dam. Can take a boat and see beautiful birds, trees, Buffalo, cows etc. It was worth coming but do NOT come here expecting to catch fish like on the YouTube videos Bangkok hooker and fishing ez. We tried for 2 days, 2 full days and got nothing. The pros with us also tried and got nothing. My understanding is that these youtube videos are fake with actors who had paid for their promos, fish fed and scouted for days beforehand, and fish bought and out in water, etc. Fake basically. But it is a very relaxing place so I'd recommend for a holiday.
