- Mister_FixitBangkokNonthaburi, Thailand130 contributionsWorth a trip if nothing better to doThis National Park is way down in the southern tip of the island and not easy to get to without a motorbike or car, or get a songthaew to take you. It isn't very large and there isn't really much there apart from an interesting lighthouse. In typical Thai style it costs foreigners 200 baht to enter and 40 baht for Thais. It's a bit of a misnomer to call it a National Park because it's really very small indeed. Pleasant enough though, but spending more than 2 hours here is stretching it. There is a token effort at the park side of it, though, with a few trees labelled with Latin names to give the impression of scientific study, a 1.7 km long walkway around the perimeter and an old lighthouse. It's a bit of a scramble up to the lighthouse but my two arthriticky old knees managed it OK. Kids would love it, but the path is a little close to some pretty sheer drops to keep your eyes on them. There's a small Thai-style open restaurant which serves the usual Thai food that they think only foreigners can eat - pad Thai, fried rice, pad grapow etc but it is distinctly canteen-style and looked pretty unappetising. All in all, a reasonable way to fill in an afternoon once you do the trek there.Visited January 2020Written 11 February 2020
- The AdultbackpackerLondon, United Kingdom41 contributionsDon’t botherWe were exploring the west coast of the island when we got to the park entrance and thought why not. At 200bht per person plus an amount depending on your type of transport, it’s not cheap. It’s actually a tiny amount of space. Most of the one beach isn’t swimmable unless the tide is fully in due to the number of rocks. The beach sadly has lots of washed up litter on which we were surprised, especially given the park entry fee, wasn’t being cleared. The scramble up to the lighthouse gives a good view but is a 10 minute activity. The staff seemed more interested in keeping the grass immaculately manicured than anything else, which jarred with this being a national park. We saw one small lizard the whole time we were there. We saw more wildlife on the ride down. Would not reccomend the time/cost of thisVisited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 December 2022
- SuratrichardSurat Thani, Thailand1,580 contributionsQuite a challenge! We had been here before earlier in the year but on this occasion decided to “do” the walk through the rain forest. Entrance to the National Park is not free and if you are a foreigner( even if you live in Thailand) the entry fee is 200 baht. Fee for the car plus Thai driver is 70 baht. There’s plenty of car parking, toilets and a small shop and staff are very helpful. The path leading immediately from the car park into the forest was closed due to a fallen tree so the walk starts from the far end of the beach. It is quite steep in places and slippery so proper footwear is essential. Their are certainly some challenges! There’s a couple of places where a small concrete bridge crosses what might be a stream bed…the only problem being that much of the bridge has disappeared so, unless you can balance on a concrete beam a few centimeters wide, a detour is necessary. As you gain height, there are some wonderful views down to the sea as well as magnificent trees soaring up to the canopy. We did spot briefly some spectacles langurs but whilst they kept an eye on us for some considerable time, we couldn’t always see them. Depending on who you ask, the walk is anything between 2.5 km to 3.5km! Time wise, it really depends how much notice you take of them tress, plants and wildlife. Despite some of the difficulties, it is well worth attempting this walk for a rain forest experience. Not sure how suitable it would be for young children. Proper footwear, some water and a fully charged camera battery are essential!Visited November 2021Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 January 2022

We rode our scooters saw monkeys on the way and at the national park as well. The hike is steep and lovely luscious jungle. Then down the the beach for a swim and a float. Loads of hermit crabs and shells. Expect the 200bt entry fee and enjoy ! Stop on the way home for lunch at one of the lookout restaurants or Tuesday mornings cafe (yum). Great day out and then we rode home in a mad downpour of rain which was a first and kind of fun !!! Monsoon season has been lucky for us. Only minor bursts of rain and very few people around. We have loved our 7 days on Koh Lanta.

This National Park is certainly well worth visiting. How anyone can say that there’s nothing to see is really quite a ridiculous statement!
We were there during the Songkran holiday so it was busier than on previous visits but it certainly wasn’t crowded. Non Thai tourists do have to pay more for admission but that’s usually the case in Thailand. There’s plenty of car parking, helpful staff, a small shop selling mainly cold drinks and toilets.
There are three main attractions within the National Park. The beach is a long stretch of golden sand and was mainly litter free. Although we didn’t venture into the sea, people were swimming. There’s places to sit in the shade.
At one end of the beach is a rocky incline upto a light house from where there are good views of the coastline. There are also some interesting rock formations. At high tide, the path to the lighthouse may be inaccessible. Some care is needed on the path.
The third attraction is a circular path into the jungle the length of which is dependent on who you ask! We thought it was 2 - 3 km. It is quite steep in places and there’s one or two parts which are in need of repair. There’s plenty of bird life and although we could hear monkeys, we didn’t actually see any. The trees are magnificent and there’s plenty of other plant life including some unusual fungi.
It certainly is an interesting part of Koh Lanta and well worth visiting.
Highly recommended.

A great way to end my stay on Koh Lanta, this has both hiking through the jungle, a nice beach, and a lighthouse with great vantage points to take photos. Also there is a small cafe which has very decent Thai food and ice cream for those hot, tropical days.

Really not sure what you are supposed to see there except the stretch of a beach and some very average trekking trail. The entry is 200 baht per person + the parking fee and we spent there 20 minutes or so and realized there’s really nothing to see. I guess it’s ok if you’re very bored, just know what to expect (not much)

The first 15mins of the trek is brutal if you are not fit! Plenty of up hill with dirt tracks and not many actual steps, but after that it gets much easier and the last 30mins or so is pretty much downhill. We saw two lizards and a staff member pointed out a monkey to us in a tree near the beach. To be honest I spent more time in the park looking at the floor and my feet to make sure I stayed up right on the path that I didn't look up for animals much. Being in the forest part was a welcome distraction from the blistering heat, just remember to bring water for the trip.

I walked from the Anda Lanta resort and saw more wildlife on my walk there and back than I did in the National Park. The nature trail is not suitable for the unfit. Luckily, I was in my hiking boots with a towel for mopping the sweat from my brow as parts of the trail were a bit challenging, muddy, steep and slippery, whereas two thirds of it was paved still with some steep step sections. I am glad I started the trail from the car park as I believe that is the best route to take with the steep muddy part first, rather than trying to come down those bits. Some impressive trees.

There are a few things I wish we knew before we went:
1. Don't let the taxi drop you at that car parking, get off at the park entrance where you pay for entry. If you have your own bike or car, you don't have a choice, but if you go by a taxi there's no need to go down to the parking place. The paved forest trail actually starts at the park entrance, not at the parking. The path from the parking that connect to the trail is steep, muddy, poorly maintained and (depending on the conditions and your abilities) can be pretty dangerous.
2. Don't go when there is low tide. The beach is beautiful, but when the water is low, there are sharp rocks waiting for you to step on. If you go during the high tide, you can enjoy swimming safely without worries.
3. If you actually want to see some monkeys or other wildlife, go early or late, just don't go in the middle of the day. The forest trail gets busy and you'll not see a single monkey with so many people around....
Other than that it was a nice trip although the paved trail could use some maintenance. We went with kids aged 1, 3 and 5, they needed some help now and then, but (except for the path from the parking) it was ok.

The Mu Koh National Park is one of the must visit locations on Koh Lanta. There is an entrance fee and, as so often the case in Thailand, foreigners (including those living in Thailand) have to pay considerably more.
There is a large car park, toilets, prayer room and a small shop. National Park staff are friendly and helpful.
There are two options within the National Park- exploring the rain forest section ( reviewed previously) or the beaches, coastline and the lighthouse. On this visit we chose the latter. To get to the lighthouse isn’t necessarily easy as the short climb does include sections of loose stone which could be tricky if wet or if wearing the wrong footwear but it’s worth the effort. There are a number of very interesting rock formations and many photo opportunities but care is needed. Unfortunately there was a considerable amount of litter which seemed incredible given there were litter bins in the car park.
In the other direction there is a wonderful beach which has always been deserted when we have visited…golden sands with the sea on one side and the forest on the other.
Well worth the admission fee and lil worth visiting.

The best way to reach the park is by motorbike. You rent one and you go straight to the park.
If you don't want it just go to the reception of the hotel and ask them, they always have contact and information about the buss or mini bus of the hotel himself.
