Great location, poor travel experience via Tui and Wizzair
Really nice old town, great food in many restaurants but some customer service development needed in some. Would have been a great hol if we hadn’t travelled with Tui who used their ‘trusted partners’ Wizzair to in their words ‘introduce’ North Macedonia. By the time we flew in Aug 2022 it must have been clear that they could not trust their partners at all. 25 hour flight delay outbound and 48 hour delay return including a 3 hour + transfer to Albania for their alternative flight (+ an extra hour for the travellers who left their passports in the ). The holiday experience is ruined and forgotten by the fact that Tui and Wizzair won’t take contractual responsibility, blame each other for the flight delays and treat their (now former) customers so badly.

One of the must visit place in life time
The most beautiful place on earth, amazing view, can take a boat trip to see the town view from the lake. Friendly local people, lots of bar, restaurants and shops. Nice day trip from Skopje

    Lovely Lake Orhid
First time to North Macedonia and to Lake Orhid. The lake is beautiful and clear and is 18 miles long and 7 miles wide. There are mountains up to 8000 feet high surrounding it and beautiful villages all around with Orhid town being the biggest and most popular place. The old town of Orhid is one of the most spectacular places. Forts, churches monasteries, cobbled narrow streets full of restaurants and bars. There are numerous boat trips to be had from 1 hour to full day. The 6 hour trip with a 3 hour stay to St Naum monastery is a must. Albania vsn also be visited in a day. Prices for meals out are very cheap. Fish and meat dishes very popular and lovely fresh salads. The pizzas are amazing. One evening we had 2 large pizzas, 3 glasses of wine and 3 beers for the equivalent of £22 .Accommodation comes in hotels and villas and apartments and they are situated in the town and also just outside. It is a very hilly area and many people go hiking in the mountains. Many Macedonisns, Serbians, Greeks, Austrians, Dutch come here plus people from many other countries. At the moment very few British tourists come here the locals are helpful and a lot of the younger locals speak quite good English. I would reccomend a trip here Mid May to mid Septmber are the best time for weather at the end of June beginning of July when Iwe visited the temp was between 26c to 30c and being 2600 feet high the nights were lovely not humid.

Breathtaking views of Europe's oldest lake
Considered Europest oldest and arguably deepest lake, it is the jewel of North Macedonia and neighbouring Albania. It has the most bio diverse freshwater bodies of water in the world with many endemic species. If you travel to the church of St John at Kaneo just outside the centre of Ohrid you can take in the panorama of lake Ohrid with the church as the centre piece. It is a spectacular sight and by far the best views of the lake. Take your camera as lots of photo opportunities along the way.

    WOW, What a lake.
Absolutely fantastic lake. Might as well be a sea, so big. Oldest lake in Europe..approx 900 feet deep in places. Great for swimming in or all the usual water activities you can do around water. Fresh water, clean and the views are brilliant. Albania across the lake, popular Ohrid Town one end and nice daytrip to Monestry the other. Loved it by this lake.

    Fantastic, peaceful, relaxed
A friend recommended this area and we were very pleased what we experienced. It is just a perfect place, a bit of everything, culture, very clean fresh lake water which you can access from almost anywhere, nice restaurants and cafes… We went there for a day but stayed for 3 nights. I definitely come back here, I guess no need to say anymore…

    Beautiful Place
Ohrid is a lovely historic town set on beautiful Lake Ohrid. There are restaurants everywhere, including a Turkish quarter with good food and reasonable prices. There are walking tracks around the lake, historic places to visit and great markets selling organic produce. It's very crowded in the summer so best to visit just before or after the crowds arrive. Highly recommended.

    Beautiful
Stunningly beautiful and very interesting place to visit. The lake is gorgeous and everywhere you look the scenery is amazing. Went swimming in the lake every day and the water though a little chilly is clean and clear. Lake Orhid is like being in a wonderful dream where everything is perfect. So calm and peaceful

    Gorgeous
I visited in the winter month and I can say summer must be extra fantastic. It was bright, blue and simply gorgeous. Lake Ohrid reminds me of Tivat lake in Montenegro. To all those visiting Skopje I highly recommend visiting Lake Ohrid and the entire area. It is simply a beatific and relaxing area. The lake looks more like the sea than a lake. There are men who operate boat tours for all so inclined. I give it two thumbs up.

    Wonderful Ohrid
First visit to the area. Ohrid is a stunning location and a versatile base. You can use it as a base from which to explore the wider area or just chill and enjoy the natural beauty of the place. All amenities are of a good standard, and the place is awash with fantastic places to eat and drink. It's culturally diverse, with influences dating back thousands of years. To top it all off, it's great value for money.

This is a fantastic lake that is well worth visiting. There are numerous paths and swimming areas along the coastline. Some very secluded and pretty bays. Make sure that you also take a boat ride on the lake at sometime during your visit.

This is the oldest tectonic lake in Europe, and a must see, if you are in the area. Shared by three states (Macedonia 🇲🇰, Greece 🇬🇷 and Albania 🇦🇱) every side has its own charm. Thousands of springs come out from under the water, and you can see the bubbles coming out. The best time to go and swim is late summer, and in my opinion-too cold to swim in June. I highly recommend visiting Lake Ohrid-you will not be disappointed.

This is truly one of the most peaceful and beautiful places I've been. The lake is surrounded by mountains so you can hike as well. Accommodation prices were reasonable. There plenty restuarants but also plenty supermarkets to buy produce for self catering. People are great as well

Lake Ohrid is very much an undiscovered hidden gem. It’s nice to visit now before it eventually becomes too commercialised. It’s nice for having a walk along and we also did a boat trip where we had the opportunity to swim a bit further out.

North Macedonia is a real, hidden gem.
The weather mid September was great - cool in the evening (about 14 degreses) and about 27 degree sun in the day.
We booked flight only and chose our own accommodation.
Apartment 4, Villa Velestovo has breathtaking views, set in lovely grounds, very clean and Renata was very helpful.
It's a steep 3km 40 minute walk up hill from the main town (would be minutes if you had a car or used a taxi - we chose to walk) but that means its very quite and the views over the lake are spectacular. There are 2 fabulous restaurants 5 minutes walk below the apartment and one about 10 minutes walk above. Kitchen is fine for self catering. Lots of useful info about the area in the appointment too.
Food, drinks and accommodation are very good value.
