Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I thought the best view was from La Posada de Suchlitan - it's a beautiful lake, the colour is spectacular.

We ate lunch down here. It is a nice view of the lake and a fun place to get a drink and some lunch. Our guide took us here. We probably would not have found it on our own.

However the lake is not natural (created by humans), it’s a wonderful area.
Over 60 species of birds can be found. Amazing nature colours.

I walked down to the Lake from Suchitoto and entered the Puerto Touristico San Juan. Down at the lake, I met a boatmen from the local association who took me out on a one and a half hour guided tour. We stopped to see a crashed airplane and a cave where a hermit lived for 14 yrs. Make sure to pack a beer or two for the trip and practice your Spanish as there is no English spoken.

We did an early morning kayak tour here from Suchitoto and it was spectacular! This place is loaded with a large variety of birds that will overwhelm you in every direction. It is super peaceful out on the lake with all the birds singing and being out on the calm water. This is definitely a must do if you are in Suchitoto.

So. I'm a Salvadoran, but born in the US. When I went to go visit during december for my christmas break and spend a nice time with my family. We got into the boat and paid a reasonable price to go around the lake. ($40 US for 10 people. so $4 per person). They bring you around the lake, and dipping you hand in the water just feels nice and cool. There are delicious places to eat near the lake. I don't know the price for foreigners, ( cause I heard they charge more if you look like a foreigner), but it was reasonable.

The lake was lovely (even though the waters were low in high season due to the late arrival of the rains). The trip was great and we even stopped off for a memorable stop and the bar on the "island" over on the far side. The only let down was the multitude of accumulated plastic waste highly visible on the shore of the lake... brought in with the water... but hopefully local efforts to clear this away will enhance the environment. The amazing attraction of bird watching was still worth it!

So, we stocked up a few beers for the "gauranteed sunset', climbed into a boat amongst a sea of weeds.

Looked into the water. It's green and there is obvious stuff floating. I ask... I get told. Gross.

An hour and a half of bird watching... The bird life for ornithologists is great. For the rest of us, it's a little fun and a few photos.

We arrive at the 'designated sunset spot'... Ummm. Nah. Was it fun. Yes. Was it worth it. No way.

Up to you now...

A boat trip on the lake to Bird Island provided an opportunity to see the enormous variety of bird life on offer. We saw hawks, cormorants, herons, egrets and many other species.

An abundance of birdlife on the lake, and local fishermen out for their catch. You can walk here in 39 mins from suchitoto, but the best 'higher' views are from a couple of the streets or restaurants in town
