We went on a Sunday in October 2017. (This market is supposedly best on Saturdays.) We were ready to go after 30 minutes. Yes, there were lots of woven goods and jewelry and such, but it seemed like a lot of similar stuff at most...More

A fabulous array of locally made crafts. I could have stayed for hours just browsing and could have spent a lot of money if only d had the space in my suitcase to carry everything home!

I visited the Otavalo Market on a school trip and it was one of my favorite places of the trip. The prices of the items are really good and sellers are really good at lowering prices. There's also ATMs really close by which was very...More

Some people come complaining here like as if they've never been to an artisan market. Yes it'll be repetitive cuz guess what ?--tourists and people buying these souvenirs sometimes want the same thing and so the vendors cater to that. Also these are vendors that...More

Well worth making the effort to get here. We aimed for the full market which included animal sales - probably not to everyone's taste! Enormous range and variety of South American goods for sale, yet the prices were reasonable. The market was safe to visit...More

The artesanal market is open on saturday (main day) maybe until 4pm and then the shops start to close. Saturday is the biggest market day, the other days it's just on the plaza. The main attraction must be the animal market only on Saturday which...More

It is a fun place to visit especially on market day. However, many items can be bought in multiples for the same place as the market if you walk around nearby wholesalers in neighbouring streets. Whatever you do, bargain and negotiate.

The market is full of hand-made, quality goods that truly can be picked up for a really reasonable price. It's a fun time to barter with the sellers and a good opportunity to work on your Spanish. You can get pretty much anything from the...More

This is a good place to buy t-shirts. The quality is really good. The products are hit and miss and so are their prices. You have a better variety in Quito for jewelry. The alpaca sweaters and pottery are good. Bargain a... More

In retrospect, I would have liked another day at Otavalo. It can be a bit overwhelming. However; it depends if you want to visit the leather shops artisans.
