Overview
More
Only 205 m from Novi lies a small island of san Marino. In the past it was used as the fishing spot for tuna, but today there is only a Gothic church here, dedicated to St. marin, after which the island got its name. This church was most probably built on the foundations of a bigger old Croatian church, the remains of which were found during archeological excavations. A stone fragment from the 3rd or 4th c., discivered on the island, bears an inscriptions mentioning Roman empress Helena.

Great short (600 m?) swim through clear blue water, snorkel, swim around the island, see the different fish, sit on the benches, look out to the other Islands or to the coast - just great!

Nice and silent place, very few reach this place. Nice church, benches with names of the winds engraved.

I actually swam out to the island and walked around the old abandoned little church. There really isn't much there except the walls but it is a curiosity. At least now I can say I swam to church for the first time in my life.

It's a small church built by thankfull sailors that got shipwrecked. It's compleetly bare, and not much to see but it's a nice legend. The only way you can get there is by boat.

small Gothic church dedicated to St. Marin is nothing sensational but the island is full of swimmers who gather strength to swim back to shore (distance is ca 200m). On the island is "tunara" which in the past served fishermen for positioning tuna fishes

The stone church itself is tiny and it is full of notes left by the visitors. Not really special. But the small sea island of San Marino itself is a beautiful landmark. The island with the church in the middle is relatively close to the...More
