We spent quite some time looking for the House of Marco Polo after our guide had told us about it. Finally, we found it. There was no sign (OK only a very small one) because the place was closed. It’s recently bought by Korcula’s Town Authority which is currently planning to reconstruct and redo it into the Museum of Marco Polo.
This is believed by many to be house in which Marco Polo, the famous world traveller and writer was born.

I just saw it from outside as most of the reviews noted it was not worth to go in. It is a construction site so i think it was the right decesion, nice to see just from outside as you pass by.

They charge yoou 20kn, and then tell you that you can see just 'this room' (meaning roughly 10 square meters) and the tower, everything else is 'under construction'. There is nothing in the room apart from six wall panels which have seen better days (probably during socialist Yugoslavia), one of them barely legible.
Tower does not offer any good views, and you access it by a very steep flight of stairs, wondering if they can hold your weight.
Have a drink somewhere, much better use of money.

Following on from the museum centred around the legendary explorer, why not visit his alleged place of birth? The house itself doesn’t offer much besides three floors with small rooms and a few displays. But if you believe Marco Polo was indeed born there like I do, there’s something surreal about following in his footsteps.
The highlight of the house is the loggia on the roof. Climb to the top to enjoy a panoramic view of Korčula Old Town and the Pelješac Peninsula, where the Battle of Curzola took place.

The main house is under construction and NOT open to the public. The gatekeeper takes your money and you get the privilege of walking up a rickety flight of stairs to a landing. Upon exiting and complaining to the theif, she smiles and says "Sorry". Legal stealing, STAY AWAY

tipycal venetian house of the XVII century, but Marco Polo was born in Venice (at least 300 years before this house). In Curzola island he was (maybe) just imprisoned during the war against Genoa :D

Marco Polo House misleads the visitor; a nearby historical marker proclaims (in small letters): "Marco Polo, the famous medieval figure, explorer, traveler and travel writer. The place of his birth is not recorded in the historical sources, but the year of his birth is known, 1254." According to historians, Marco Polo was born in the Republic of Venice. Extensive archeological work done in the house ruins (only four exterior walls remain) uncovered artifacts from the early 13th century. The house next door was recently purchased by Korcula’s Town Authority and is being redone into the Museum of Marco Polo, with artifacts and period furnishings. At present, only part of the house is open, but the visitor can ascend three flights of stairs to a loggia with expansive views over the old town and coastal islands. There is a large map depicting Marco Polo's journey on a wall just down the street from the house, near the town's main square. In my opinion, the map is much more interesting than the house (and it is free). The house is open 9-3, with an entry fee of 20 kuna (children are free).

We knew we had the right place when we saw a few gondolas stopping here to let people take photos. There is not much here to see except a very plain building with a sign "Marco Polo Casa". We were glad to stop for a quick photo op ourselves.

There was no house or anything that resembled a place that was once inhabited by a human being. It was simply a long, winding and narrow climb of stairs that will take you to the top. There you will be greeted by a spectacular view of the Adriatic Sea surrounding the island of Korcula. But why label it the house of Marco Polo and charge for it? In a house, one will expect to find a living room, dining area and sleeping quarters. None! Such deception.

It was interesting to believe that Marco Polo actually lived in this house prior to his travels on the "Silk Road". There are only four walls left to his house so it's a "stretch" of the imagination to believe he may have lived here. There is a building next door by which to climb several flights of stairs so as to gain an internal view of his actual remaining home sandwiched between other buildings......not to mention a "gift shop".
So put aside your disbelief and spend 10 minutes here.....then read more about Marco Polo and gain some understanding of his worldly achievements!
