We rented a moped for the day and this was the first place we visited. The views are incredible and the fortress is pretty cool to walk around. The prison was probably the coolest room.

Visit here for the views and see the fortress. Quite easy 20 minute walk from the town uphill. The walk is pretty with flowers and agave plants on the way. Views are nice and the fortress itself is worth a visit.

Completely worth the somewhat strenuous walk up steps and a rocky path, make sure to bring plenty of water. The views from the top are just breathtaking!

I recommend you buy some beers and put them in your back pack, hike up to the top, grab a seat and enjoy the view of the world at your feet. Loved it!

May be quite a long haul up the hill and through gardens but its worth it. The fortress has much to occupy the interest for a couple of hours along with a welcome cafe bar for refreshment.

The Hvar Fortress is perched on top of a hill offeriing a magnificent view of the harbor and the old town. The fortress itself is mildly interesting. Since there are no guided or audio tours, it needs more placards to provide historic information. Once you marvel at the vista below, however, you'll be glad you visited. We took a taxi... More

It took us around 15-20 minutes to walk up to the fortress. It's quite a refreshing chilling journey as there's plenty of greens to see. The view at the top was great. Unfortunately the weather wasn't good when we visited to Hvar so not much we can do or see. Definitely worth walking up for the view!

Visiting the fortress is a must, if you are on the Hvar island. It is a short walk up the hill, and you can chose any route through the gorgeous small streets, where the walls and windows are covered in flowers, going up and coming down. The fortress position allows you to take amazing pictures of the Hvar harbor and... More

We walked up to the fortress behind the town of Hvar. A good climb and good exercise! Worth it for the views from the top. You can go in the fortress, but we didn't - we went up for the view.

Well worth the walk up from the town to get some totally brilliant views of the town, the pakleni islands and of course the Adriatic sea. There is an admission charge but the day we went there was no-one at the fortress so maybe its only in peak season. There was a bar but we didn't stop for a drink.
