A lovely area in Dali which can be a stopping point while visiting the Butterfly park or can be used for a nice stroll around another interesting area away from the main Ancient Town. Lots of textiles and shops but there are quite a few...More

This town specializes in textiles. It sees less foreign tourists than others in the area. We stopped at a small tie die operation and they demonstrated the various techniques. Plenty of things for sale but not much pressure. The people were very friendly.

While I am interested in fabrics, Zhoucheng is too in your face with very aggressive locals trying to drag you into their shops. Seeing batiks produced is interesting. Asking prices were 5+ times those asked in Dali Old Town. I suggest that you buy in...More

I came here from XiZhou by taxi (very cheap), and the driver dropped me off at one of the tie-dyeing factories. From what I understood, there are many small, family-owned factories here. So I guess it doesn't really matter which one exactly you visit. Anyway,...More

If you are looking at buying some local flavor gifts which don't take much space in your baggage, stopping in Zhoucheng is handy. There is one dying shop where you can see their techniques and buy at the lowest prices we saw in the area....More
