The Kong Miao in Qufu is a mass of humans, but the temple at Confucius' birthplace on Nishan was a tranquil affair. It is smaller, but better if you want to feel less flustered. The cave and an academy are here too, so it is worth the trip out of town.

I like the atmosphere there... Not many tourists, but it is a great scenic place. Maybe a bit trouble for anyone who does not speak Chinese to visit here since you have to rent a car to go here... There is no bus/ public transportation so far.
