Nice way to spend an afternoon

This is an above average zoo. There seemed to be quite a few empty habitats with no explanation. We did enjoy what we saw though. I loved getting so close to the Flamingos!

My daughter and I went there on a late Friday evening. We where able to see over 800 animals but not most of shows. So check out those times before you get there. This is very child friendly. Lots of great places for photo opportunities. Very level and easy walking for seniors. Very clean and well landscaped with this terrible drought... More

I have been visiting the Birmingham Zoo since I was a little girl, and frankly, it hasn't changed much, I'm sorry to say. Yes, there are animals and a train to ride, but other cities in Alabama (Montgomery, for example) have bypassed Birmingham. For some reason, new exhibits just don't come to our zoo. A pleasant experience but pricey for... More

Expectations are everything. So if you just expect a small town type zoo that closes a bunch of stuff down on slow days (yet charges the same amount) you'll be just fine.

Here from out of town and I try to check out all the local zoos. This one was cool. I liked the layout and they had a bunch of animals. I got half of because I had Pokémon GO on my phone, so it was only like 8 bucks I think. 4 stars only because it looked like it could... More

Very friendly staff and very accommodating for the service dog . We had a wonderful time and only two area were off limits but we totally understood . Loved the giraffe and they loved looking at the dog! The train ride was a treat and the guinea hens walking with us was something I was very surprised with. Definitely will... More

The Birmingham Zoo is a well appointed wild animal park, set in a pristine environment. With amenities for every age, it's a great family attraction any time of the year. There is a fantastic play area with carousel for the little ones, and the train is fun for every generation. There are educational experiences and feeding opportunities to galore. A... More

Three generations of the family visited on Veteran's Day; a warm, sunny day using a family membership card. And many families were taking the opportunity to visit the zoo too. The cost of entry for non members seemed very reasonable. The staff were very helpful if approached. There were several empty pens which was disappointing but many animals were out... More

We took our grandchild to the zoo last week. I haven't been in a couple of years and was pleasantly surprised at all the renovations. We had a nice time.

I go to this zoo at least once a year. I take my class there on a field trip, and usually go with my nephew. While there are definitely much more impressive zoos across the country, I feel like this is a pretty good zoo for our area. The exhibits change based on the seasons, and with the school trips,...
