Much to see!! We did it in 3 hours, but didn’t see everything, but still was great!! I would say if you want to do it all, at least one day.

The Moon Valley is a truely beautiful location. We visited with a tour group which is beneficial as there are very few information signs. Make sure you take plenty of water.

This daytrip is neat enough and is usually timed to finish at sunset. I think if it had been the only place I had seen in Atacama I would have a better opinion of it: it's OK, but cannot compare to the Tatio Geothermic Field,...More

We visited both the valleys with Cosmo Andino (detailed TA review on their page) around sunset. Both the valleys are quite different in the colour of their soil/sand. In the death valley or Mars Valley, the sand had a reddish tinge. The way the forces...More

We visited both valleys with "Desert adventures". Reliable and trustworthy organization. The tour itself was nice. The scenery is really out of this world. You can save money by doing this with a rental bike. Don't expect to be alone while catching the sunset at...More

Considering you can do this in an afternoon and how close it is to the town, you'd be crazy not to do this trip. It's breathtaking and just incredibly beautiful. Wear walking shoes/trainers for comfort (saw some people who were wearing flip flops which looked...More

Great tour for the late afternoon to catch the sun set over this landcape. Very scenic, all formations of the Atacama visible. The raised “Atlantic” sediments (yes, no typo. Yes it’s Chile and this is boadering the pacific, still no typo), the vulcane ashes and...More

Sunset in Valle de la Luna is a must in San Pedro. You get a great view from the dunes with a brief hike. The salt caverns were an unexpected surprise. Crawling through the caverns is a lot of fun and offers some neat formations...More

Hi, I think it is possible to visit some of the places such as lagunas escondidas and valle de la luna on your own, but the furthest ones might be more difficult, like Salar de Tara and Lagunas Escondidas. I would strongly... More

Hi, Yes, you can drive into both Valle de la Luna and Valle de la Muerte. I went with a tour (mini-bus), but saw lots of cars driving in. There are parking areas. You can hike for as long as you want. The hike I took in... More

Katherine, I was driving a rental car, so I did not take any tour. Anyway I would definetly reccommend being there during the sunset. I´d plan arriving there in the afternoon around 3:00PM should be fine.
