Aside from it being on the main commercial artery between Santiago, Chile and Mendoza, Argentina (think lots of semi trucks on winding, two lane highway, it's a beautiful, old resort - vintage 1950-60's. Modern ammenities and skiing, huddled around a lake in the middle of the mountains. It's a little bit farther away from Santiago than the other three (La... More

The best ski resort in Chile... though Termas de CHillán is also very good, this is a lot closer to Snantiago, which makes it better for us who live here.

Took the SkiTotal van to Portillo for a Saturday. Van did not arrive until 11:00 and then the line for tickets was an hour and a half. By the time we grabbed a bite to eat the time was after 1:00. I attribute this miserable failure to both SkiTotal and Portillo. Although the views are fantastic, it is a small... More

We have visited Portillo 4 times (the last was Aug, 2009, but that date option wasn't available). Each time, we were blessed with a huge dump of snow and nearly empty runs. Yes, if you stay on piste, you may get bored. You need to traverse and/or hike and you will be rewarded with some of the best skiing of... More

In order to come to this place you need to be in a certain state of mind - this place is far from what the typical fat American expects of a top notch foreign ski destination. As someone who is trying to break the mold, this place is amazing - only 15 named runs, yet there are as many slopes... More

I read that this resort was one of the top 10 resorts in the world, so I was very enthusiastic and excited to go. However, it's not. It's a very tiny resort, with extremely old lifts and short runs. I know there is a good downhill course for training the world cup teams from North America, however, if you're unfortunate... More
