We had a great day cruising up to Mingun. The river was alive with local traffic and it was so interesting to see the life on the river. Well worth a trip if you have the time.

The Irrawaddy or Ayeyarwady as the Myanmar people call it is a majestic river with high river banks and wild living dolphins.

I have been to the Ayeyarwaddy River in Yangon, Mingun, Mandalay and Bagan. In Bagan I actually stayed in a hotel with a view onto the river for sunset. It is so beautiful to simply just sit and enjoy the views. it's a peaceful and serene river setting everywhere. The only sounds come from the tuk tuk tuk of the... More

Went with tour guide by boat from Sagaing to Mingun along the Ayeyarwaddy River. It took about 45 minutes. Really relaxing trip. Then check out the sites in Mingun. Highly recommended. Catch the sunset on the river on the way back if in late afternoon.

You must take a boat trip up or down the Ayeyarwaddy river as the sights that you see, the villages that you are able to visit, the sunsets and sunrises are just something else. You can travel in luxury or just reasonable travel but just do it.

I recently took an over night ferry ride from Mandalay to Bagan. The dock to get onto the ship was exciting enough. The trip on the Irrawaddy Princess 2 was enjoyable and relaxing with food and drinks served on board. The accommodation was small but functional and clean. A highly enjoyable trip.

What a wonderful way to see Mandalay from a different perspective. The cruise is roughly an hour on smooth river waters. There are small villages that dot the shoreline. The pagodas on the opposite end of the ride are well worth the visit.

We were a group of 40 people, we hired two boats to go to Mingun from Mandalay and we came back to Mandalay after about 2 hours. It is indeed a very nice experience to cruise on the Irrawaddi river ( also spelt as Ayeyarwaddy). Woth the time and money. Just that the docking of these boats on the banks... More
