São Paulo's very own Empire State Building — the Edifício Altino Arantes, better known by the name of its previous owner, Banespa — opened in 1947 as a symbol of the fast-growing city's economic might. The striking views from the observation deck, accessed from the 33rd floor of the 161-meter-tall building, never fail to impress visitors. Views, while free, are daytime only; the building is only open during normal business hours.

This is definitely not for the faint of heart. It's a beautiful view of the city of São Paulo, that's for sure, but once you reach the top, beware it's very windy, there's not much rail protection and you're very exposed. Also a little claustrophobic...More

It is an impressive building. People told me the view from the top is amazing but I was not able to go. It seems like it has been more than 2 years that people can't go on the top.

The Banespa Building is a great stop for a view of the entire city. It's a free visit, you just need to check in with an ID when you arrive. And the lobby design is lovely to appreciate as you wait to go up.

There is not much to see on the building itself, but the view from the top is great, and best of all, it is free.

The Banespa Building security guard was very nice, and suggested we go to the rooftop at the nearby Martinelli Building (Predio Martinelli). Av. Sao Joao #35. Not as tall as Banespa, but good views. Staff is friendly at Martinelli. You just need to sign in...More

When we arrived to the Banespa Building after paying taxi cab driver R$25 we saw the sign saying it's closed for improvements. Bummer indeed. After Banespa Building, check out the local stores near by Sao Bentos cathedral.

If you are looking for a panorama view of Sao Paulo and don't want to pay lots of money for Italian building, check Banespa building. Staff was friendly and respectful. It was not that crowded on a Saturday.

To truly know São Paulo, you have to start at the old
centre, full of history and landmarks with stories to
tell. Get a taste of local food at the Municipal
Market, and if you are brave enough, head to the
crowded shopping street “25 de março” for cheap deals
on a wide assortment of items. Beautiful buildings in
this area include the Post Office Building, Luz
Station, Pagé Gallery, Pateo do Colegio and the iconic
