We had a wonderful and different evening at this oasis in Sao Paulo. We saw a classical violin performance at this historic venue, It was incredibly inexpensive and is apparently heavily subsidized. Getting there at night is a bit of a challenge. We took a taxi, walking or metro is not an option. The area surrounding the theater is dark... More

This gem theater is located in the Ild Downtown area and while yes, there is a sizable homeless population hanging out nearby, I don't believe you have anything to fear if you want to visit this for a performance or just a look into the lobby. Shopping malls across the street so it isn't a dangerous area per se. But... More

The Theatro Municipal de São Paulo is one of the most beautiful places in the whole city. You must see a concert or visit the place. Just watch out, because the area (downtonwn) where it takes places it's a little bit dangerous.

This room has a yearly schedule and have some international classical music presentations during the whole year. Please be aware that some of the places may not offer a great view of the whole stage, or even the screens where they put subtitles. Prices usually are accessible. And the region is not too safe, specially at night... Avoid walking alone... More

The building stands out, as it has classical form surrounded by concrete beasts. It has some stain glass windows that bring the building to life. Nice for a quick look if you're in the area. I wouldn't really say that this area is particularly dangerous during the day time. However, if you get nervous and scared by homeless people approaching... More

Old part of Sao Paulo. Must visit. Go in a group. Go in the 1st part of the day. The people around do not inspire confidence. However lovely to see. It's a 100% to go to place. Bhagwan

It is a must to visit. It is like a palace placed in the center of São Paulo in the middle of its decadence. There are guided visits in Portuguese and so in Englisj; they are free. It is a good place to visit with children and inside it there is a really cool bar to have a coffee or... More

Beautiful building inside and out! There's free tours starting at 11am (get there at 10am to put your name on the list). Our guide Lucas was very good, he knew a lot and answered all of our questions :)

The Theatro Municipal De Sao Paulo is an iconic and stunning building. Very impressive, well maintained with beautiful architecture (by Ramos de Azevedo). They also offer a tour if you would like to get inside and know more about its construction and importance. Highly recommended!

The Theatro Municipal in São Paulo is a wonderful experience, not all of it because of the event one is going to enjoy, but the theatre and the building temselves. It depicts a time when São Paulo was na economic powerhouse because of its coffee trade, and it has na European aura os spledour that makes it a must see... More

Staying in Republica

Neighbourhood Profile
Republica
Part of the historical centre of São Paulo, República was once a fancy residential area. República Square holds a craft and food fair every weekend, right by the subway entrance. Nearby, one of the neighbourhood’s main attractions is the Italian Building, where you can see the city from the 42nd floor. The Copan Building also deserves a close look, with 1,160 apartments and a huge floor area that inspired filmmakers and other artists. To get the feeling of São Paulo in the beginning of the 1900s, visit the Municipal Theatre – you will be amazed by its architecture. The area also features several galleries. República is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.
