Good place for shopping souvenirs and eat sea food
Nov 2019 • Family
Low price for shirts and souvenirs. Take care with wallets ok. The food place offer different restaurants and many sea foods. The price for food is not expenses. I visit with family and friends.

Not only shopping
Feb 2019 • Friends
This is also a very popular place if you want to: have something to drink, something small to eat, and meet friends in the evening. The area is covered - so a little rain is no problem, the music that is very high-volume, and even if you sit with maximum distance to the musician you WILL hear it. It can be hard to find the toilets after some beer, but there is a place for this. Good hygiene, but with a small cost (ca 2 reais cash).

Mercado Municipal is a fun and lively place to visit
Sep 2018 • Couples
The public market in Florianopolis has storied past that goes back over 200 years. The original market sellers used tents. There was considerable heated debate among the locals about where to build a permanent structure. At first the location seems odd, since the Customs House is adjacent to Mercado Municipal. However, a quarter mile (400m) of landfill was placed in front of the area for the market. This created a separation between the market and the sea. The building was completed in 1932. There have been a number of damaging fires and renovations over the years. Today, there are two hallways of stalls and a center court. The offerings appeal to locals and vacationers a like. I was fascinated by the local seafood stalls and impressed with the freshness of product. Some of the other stalls offer hand crafts and tourist type mementos. The center section now serves as a food court, with restaurants along one side providing customer service. I would no more order a Philly cheese steak in Chicago than order non traditional food in Brazil. There is plenty to choose from here. Brazilians are fastidious about quality and freshness of foods.

The market is a fun place to shop. We found the merchants to be friendly and helpful. The shopping experience extends beyond the four walls of the market. So, there is more stores to shop. Some of the streets in the area have been designated for foot traffic only. We visited on a weekday and found the area to be quite lively with locals and vacationers busy shopping. Moreover, some of the other attractions, Like Palacio Cruz e Sousa are within a short walk from Mercado Municipal.

As a footnote – we have been to public markets in other Brazilian cities. Mercado Municipal is safe, clean and easy to navigate. I noticed police stationed around the buildings, that added to a sense of security. This is a great place to visit.

Nice place closed on sundays
Sep 2018 • Friends
The place has a very nice look with live music and many restaurants. Nearby there is a market of local products and it isclose to the city center. The only thing that was desappointing is the fact it was closed on sunday evening...I was told that it does open during brasilian summer.
Worth a visit

Interesting market
Oct 2017 • Solo
A nice place to visit not just for the market products found here, but also for the several good restaurants and bars that offer a nice atmosphere for diners. Food is definitely very good and many people visit it for lunch and dinner. Several seafood stands offer a variety of fish for people to take them home. Besides, the building itself looks good to admire.

A "must do" visit in Florianopolis
Jun 2018 • Solo
The Municipal Market is a great place near downtown in Florianopolis, close to the bridge that connects the island with the continent. There are a lot of seafood restaurants and bars, plus handicraft sellers as well as fresh seafood, which I think is really awesome, with lots of fish and shrimps. Despite being a central attraction, the places outside the market would deserve a better maintenance by public administration, with some homeless people and dirty square and fountain.

Nice but a little confusing
Feb 2018 • Couples
The Mercado is a must! Located in the heart of the city, it offers a little bit of everything. I enjoyed the fishery section, the handicraft area is poor and repetitive, but the food court is huge almost bigger than the crowd this Saturday. I always enjoy markets, and Florianópolis one reminded me of Mexico City market. No mariachi but there were musicians. Definitely, entertaining.
