So, Ive recently taken a run of food tours in various cities, including New Orleans, Amsterdam, Bangkok and of course the Eatrio tour with Tom. Tom’s tour was by far the Best. Due to the reduced tourism because of CoViD, my daughter and I had the good fortune of getting Tom all to ourselves back in September, and it was spectacular. Tom’s creative and highly curated daytime tour was a highlight of our week in RIo. I would recommend to anyone visiting this city, being a food fanatic or not, to include this tour in your plans.

This is a must do when in Rio. Seriously, don't waste your time looking at reviews for restaurants and other tours. Tom is knowledgeable, dedicated, and passionate about Brazilian food and culture. The day I went on tour with him was one of my best days in Rio. I highly recommend taking one of his tours on your first or second day there. It will set the perfect tone for the rest of your trip.

Thanks so much Meagan! I do put a lot of effort into all the recommendations and extra info so that guests can get the most out of their entire time in Rio (not just during the food tour!). Looking forward to taking you out on the Eat Rio Bar Food Tour when you're back in December :)

Seriously take this tour the first days you are in Rio. Tom can open the door to all sorts of Brazilian food that you would never think about trying, because otherwise you're going to be eating rice, fries, farofa and beans at every meal (I'm serious - every meal). He is knowledgeable, energetic, and just plain fun to be around. You're gonna be eating a lot of things. Come hungry. The fruit at the markets, most of which I would have not even thought of trying, was amazing. I thought Asia had the best fruit - wait until you have Brazilian pineapple and mango. Will make you cry. Anyway - take this tour the first day you are in Rio. Also, Tom carries around a bag of booze and there are always opportunities to do a few shots along the way.

Ha ha! Thanks for your review Mark - you had me chuckling at the rice, beans and farofa comment! Rio is definitely a city where some local knowledge will go a LONG way. I'm so happy you mentioned the mangos - even after 11+ years here, they still amaze and delight me. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review - much appreciated.

Absolutely the highlight of our time in Rio de Janeiro so far! Tom is an expert who shared his passion for local flavors, traditions, and hot spots in a fun and creative way. We learned so much about Rio food history, tried over 15 new fruits and flavors, and visited parts of the city we never would have considered left to our own devices. My absolute favorite part was going through the market, meeting vendors, and trying their homemade products. I know I will sign up for Tom's tours several times as friends and family come to visit. Sign up for a tour and find out for yourselves how incredible Rio is!

Thanks so much for this fantastic review Malene! My guides and I all LOVE the street markets - as well as being a foodie's dream, they're also a travel photographer's paradise, so full of colours and sights. And walking through a Rio street market, people instantly pick up on what makes Cariocas (the locals) so special - kind, warm, hilarious and incredibly welcoming. The perfect start to anyone's time in Rio. Thanks again for booking with me - I'm looking forward to taking you guys out on the Eat Rio evening bar food tour!

Ah, thanks so much for this lovely review Marga! I had such a fun day with you and Pilar! I'm always available to help people with advice and recommendations (even people who don't book our tours) because I want everyone to love Rio as much as I do. It pains me when people visit this incredible city and miss out on all the delicious fun and unique experiences that are waiting down backstreets and in the less-visited neighbourhoods. All it takes is some local knowledge and someone to show the way! :) I hope I'll see you back in Rio someday soon - you guys should come for carnaval 2022! :)
