Teleferico Do Alemao is a popular tourist attraction, that steadily has grown since it's initiation 2 years ago. It is merely a 6 station transportation system for at large low-income community (favela), but due to the fact of the cars being high in the air, it has grown to be a proper attraction. And what a view! It is amazing to dangle away over the labyrinths of the favela and the view from the last station is amazing - green views, the christ and Engenhao stadiums in the distance and the mass of small houses clinging up the hills. Worth a visite.

Very good cable car, each one has a capacity for e persons. It rides you through five different stations at the favela Morro do Alemão. When the weather is windy it doesn't operate.

Sure you have to goto cristo redentor and sugarloaf, the views are as expected. But the views here are pretty unique. I don't know of many other cities where you can take a cable car over favelas. It was not busy at all and very...More

One of the curiosities of Rio is the favelas which abut affluent areas of the city. There is much fear about the safety of getting anywhere near them due to the violence that is prevalent there. One way to examine the scope of Rio's favelas...More

This is NOT for the scaredy-cats. You take a bus from Copa to the train station to travel to Bonsucesso. It takes a minimum of 90" to get to the Gondola Lift Station. The cost is around one buck to get to the gondolas. You...More

I had some mixed feelings about people suggesting to go and check out the famous favelas from above, but then we decided to go and, frankly, it was an eye opener. I was thinking about these areas about something like what I saw in other...More
