Hidden Paradise
Aug 2019
Right behind the urban chaos sits this bucolic hidden paradise. A small "village" inside a busy metropolis :)

Few restaurants by the water with a nice boat trip.

We recomend MARACUYÁ restaurant. They accept reservations. The food was great, although they are not really a Peruvian restaurant, the Ceviche was great. The service was really good and the food was all good.

Tranquil funky safe moody oasis

Great location to stay in - we used an airbnb.

A few (not many) sweet little cafes, with good food and interesting local people.

Has a real vibe to it. very alternative. A bit gritty. Not touristy.

The ferry is cheap, frequent, and reliable.

Uneven pavements, very difficult if it's rainy, and the ferry isn't exactly western standards when it comes to disabled access. I wouldn't go if I had mobility problems.

I'd stay on the island again. Or if you're not staying there, worth popping over for lunch and a wander.

Staying in Rio for at least a few days? Give it a go
Sep 2016 • Couples
One of the best things we've seen in Rio, very quiet / peaceful neighbourhood. It's a 1 minute boat journey into this island for $1r per person. Nice to walk around the paths through the houses, various stalls, shops, small bars and restaurants often overlooking the creek surrounding it. No need to book for food, just find somewhere you like. Nice to local children playing and residents about their daily life. Only downside is the waterways surrounding the area are highly polluted

Feeling like a local
Aug 2016
I loved every second of staying on this island. It's authentic Brazil and you feel like a local. A very short ferry crossing and you jump off into narrow, cobbled lanes. Little bars and restaurants are along the way. And pop up food stalls on the weekends. It's small and quaint and safe and you can walk from one end to the other in 15 minutes! There are quite a few restaurants on the waterfront too, which have amazing views and ambience. A gem in a busy city!

A piece of tranquility

Take the boat and forget the city. You'll be at a nice and bucolic place just a few minutes from the chaos. Restaurants, pleasant streets and the perfect day.

It would be just wonderful... if water was not so outstandingly dirty
Jun 2016 • Friends
There are nice restaurants, the inner part of the main island is cozy to walk around, the landscape in just great, it all looks like one were not in Rio. However, the water is so highly polluted that it looses a great part of its beauty and charm. And it is worst when it smells terribly bad. If you go, try to check on the tides - when the tide is incoming - high tide - it is better.

Beautiful fishers village in the middle of the city
Dec 2014 • Solo
To reach the island you have to take a small boat. There you will find several restaurants and bars and a simple, beautiful fisher's village. Today there are also small buildings and middle and high class houses. Definetly worth the visit!

AMAZING!
What shall I say? This island is stunning, you can take a boat to get around and see all the bars & restaurants. It feels like you left Rio de Janeiro... such a nice feeling here. My recommendation - Cais Bar for Pastel and an Antarctica Original :)
