One of the two classic beaches in Rio (also Copacabana). This one is a bit cleaner and seemed to be a friendlier vibe. Immediately adjacent to LeBlon's Beach to the West. There are shops and places to eat across the road from the sand, but...More

Best beach in the south zone, but can get very crowded on weekends and vacations. Better arrive early in these days (before 9am ou in the afternoon, after 3pm)

We walked along the beach and there was a lot of trash. This was surprising since I read that this was the most expensive beach. Copacabana was much cleaner.

Of the two big beaches I prefer Ipanema. Be sure to bring a towel and a cooler full of beer and chill away the day. In the streets behind there are a few great, but pricey, restaurants and boutiques.

Amazingly beautiful beach and a must see if your in Rio! Love the wall with all the graffiti on it. Lots of open space to lay out on the sand. Lots of food and drink vendors walking the beach.

White sandy beach with beautiful bodies makes for great people watching, however, other than eye candy on the surface, the beach is NOT CLEAN.

Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the
best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is
inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from
Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many
high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which
can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue.
The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing
many art galleries that show contemporary art. There
